    SoCal beaches

I'm going to be in SoCal in a little bit over a month and half. Anaheim area - visiting the Diz. But we want to take one day and chill at the beach.

I am not familiar with beaches in Southern California. Assuming I have one day to spend at the beach, which beach should I go to? Assume we don't surf - we just chill, and want to go somewhere that is nice with good sand and water to play in. Also assume we will be going on a Thursday.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

I've always liked newport beach for what you are looking for.

My extensive experiences with the beaches of California are too far removed for me to have current knowledge. But, if you were asking me 20 years ago for what you are looking for, I would have said Corona Del Mar.

Cool places to climb and explore and we used to see seals all the time.

The other side looks like this,

It is a great beach that we would use for larger family get togethers.

Yes. It would be the entire family. I'm not sure my kids are ready for nude beaches, so none of those please (do they even exist in SoCal?)

SHW has also requested that it not be too crowded. I am not sure how crowded beaches will be on Thursday, June 10.

I'll put in another plug for Corona Del Mar. Great beach for kids.

Yeah Corona del Mar, also Santa Monica beach has rides and games for kids on their boardwalk, plus it's next to Little England if you want to treat the fam to baked beans and tomatoes for breakfast. Seal beach has - can you guess? (Hint: it's not apes or candy apples).

I'm not sure exactly which beach it is, but you should steer clear of a beach near Reseda and Encino, where a bunch of tough guys hang out with their motorcycles. I saw them once break a girl's boombox and beat the hell out of some kid from New Jersey.

If you're willing to risk it, though, they do allow campfires on this beach.

There's another beach nearby that has some cool stumps, but there are racist beer-drinkers in the neighborhood. As long as you're not with any older Japanese men you should be alright.

For nostagic reasons my wife will only go to Huntington Beach when we are visiting. HB is not my cup of tea. The Beach is waaay to huge and crowded. I like the more secluded beaches of San Diego better.

Lol - it took me two read-throughs. I am slow.

When I was there last fall we spent the day at Salt Creek Beach. It was nice and not crowded at all.

In fact I imagine we will probably spend some time there next weekend as well.
