    The Allergies Thread

    What are you allergic to?

I have mostly seasonal allergies and I think maybe a little dust and mold. I love this time of year because it is so nice out, but I rarely get to participate beccause my allergies shut me down.

My wife is allergic to everything on the allergy test (42 things or something like that) except for Mold and Cockroaches.

    How about the CUF nation?

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Same. I've been miserable all day today with a stuffed nose, sneezing, coughing, etc. It's just my annual spring-time allergy thing, but it still pisses me off every time.

Before leaving SLC for my residency in Philadelphia I had pretty bad seasonal allergies. I never had seasonal allergies while living in the East and since moving back to Utah they have not been a problem. Now that I've said that I am anticipating a miserable allergy season.

I used to get seasonal allergies. Nothing popping a benadryl at night couldn't cure. I am not really allergic to much. Though my back tends to spasm when friends call me to help them move.

This is exactly what I am struggling through right now. If I take my medicine in plugs me up but if I don't I can't breath and sneeze like a banchee.

Cats, horses, hay, dust and dust mites. I had allergy shots for about 6 years as a youth and it minimized almost all of the tree and grass pollens that I was allergic to.

                pollen, all types
                dust

I took two years worth of allergy shots and I seem to do just fine now with either.

My son is allergic to cats, which is fine by me. I am not fond of felines.

                  Cooked spinach. Seriously.

Raw...no problem. You cook it, I eat it and my throat swells up. I can hardly swallow and barely breath.

I get seasonal allergies, no biggie, and also olive trees and their pollen.

My wife is a whole other ball of wax.

She has the worst allergies of anyone I know. She is allergic to everything. She breaks out in hives 3-4 times a week and is on a steady dose of Claritin and Benedryl. They seem to be getting worst. She had the back test done (where they prick your back with a million different things). Allergist told her he didn't have time to go over everything she had a reaction to there were so many. She must carry an Epi pen with her at all times.

Her allergist wants her to get shot therapy or move out of the central valley.

I woke up a couple of hours later with my windpipe almost completely swollen shut. I had to lay prone on my back with my head completely tilted back (chin straight up in the air) to get any air into my lungs. After a few minutes, everything returned to normal (except my wife's nerves). I got the pinprick skin test the next day at an immunologist's office. It was determined that I was now inexplicably allergic to almonds, walnuts, and hazelnuts. Pecans were fine, peanuts fine, any other nut... no problem. And this was all adult on-set. I grew up munching out of tins filled with the delicious Blue Diamond roasted almonds - an indulgence that I can no longer enjoy.

I carry an EPI-pen with me when we eat out. It's strange.

Do you have any reaction to fresh peaches or nectarines? My wife is in the same boat as you, except she is allergic to any fruit or nut grown on a tree, except citrus and peanuts (which are not from a tree). If the item is roasted or cooked, no problem.

The program interviews Jasper Lawrence, an English man with severe allergies and asthma, that was looking for an explanation as to why allergies and other such autoimmune disorders were not as prevalent in third world countries. He watched some BBC program that discussed research and studies about how the infection of hook worm in a host dramatically decreases the likelihood that the host would suffer from asthma. He then discovers that some researchers are looking at Helminthic therapy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia as a means to manage allergies and asthma and Crohn's disease, etc. So, he purposely gets himself infected with hook worms and discovers that, lo and behold, his symptoms magically disappear. Now he sells hook worm (not FDA approved) on his web site.

                            cheers.
Yep, I listened to it. Very interesting to me. My wife's response? "I'd rather walk around with hives all over my body...."

I have a son with ulcerative colitis. I listened to it and then had the whole family listen to it. Fascinating stuff. This is definitely something we are going to monitor.
