Signed him to their youth program. Isn't it typical to sign the kids up at that age in Europe in the pro teams' youth programs? Maybe signing an Argentine in Spain is unusual?Originally posted by wuapinmon View Post
I read a good NYT article on this in the Netherlands last year.
But from the article you linked:
There are mutterings of disgust that Real has signed a player too young for many amusement park rides, but signing young players is old hat in the beautiful game. Earlier this year, VVV Venlo of the Netherlands' top league reportedly signed an 18-month-old to a 10-year-contract. Yes, an 18-month-old.

Un Bi-ma!Originally posted by Commando View PostThat reminds me of ordering food in Guatemala from McDonalds for the first time. It bugged me that they just left certain menu items in English and that in order to be understood you had to pronounce the item in its pseudo English form and with a thick spanish accent e.g. quiero un mil-SHAY.

The only thing that is unusual is the kid is from Argentina.Originally posted by Jacob View PostSigned him to their youth program. Isn't it typical to sign the kids up at that age in Europe in the pro teams' youth programs? Maybe signing an Argentine in Spain is unusual?

He wasn't signed to a pro-contract or to play in a lower division.
They are essentially putting him in their development program and he'll play on a club team...like a comp team here in the U.S.
Big woop.

Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock
