Stupidest thing you did as a kid

This is a place to tell those stories that make you wonder how you survived to be 21.

Mine has to be making lightening bolts:

    1. buy 150 ft. of fine copper wire
    2. tie one end to a sagebrush
    3. Tie other end to a baseball size rock
    4. throw rock over the top of high voltage line
    5. run like hell

    Awwww.....memory lane.

Lol, that sounds like something I would have done if I could have figured it out.

My friends and I used to make flaming catapults. We'd put a cup of gas on the end of a board that was teeter-tottered over a brick, lit the gas, then jump on the other end of the board. Just make sure you get some air under that cup, otherwise its coming straight at your head!
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I have nothing remotely close to your stories. The stupidest thing I did was tell a stoner at MHJS to sit down and shut up at a football game when I was in the 7th grade. She said she and her friends were gonna find me after the game and kick the crap out of me. Me and my goody goody friends were terrified. We hurried out to the parking lot after the game to find our ride home as fast as possible. I didn't see the stoner chick until about a week later when I happened to be in the girl's room the same time as her. I was freaking out when I saw her walk into the bathroom. But, she must have been pretty stoned at the football game because she just looked at me and said "nice purse."

          That's awesome, Doc.

In 8th grade my friend and I blew up our science classroom. The entire class was mixing some hydrochloric acid, zinc and seashells in a little glass container. The mixture released hydrogen gas and when a flame was put to it, it made a little pop.

Being the geniuses that we were at the time, we decided that more hydrogen gas = louder bang. We didn't think that a louder bang = more force.

His sister was the student aid for the class, so we convinced her to get the biggest beaker in the lab (which turned out to be about 2 liters) and we filled it with the three ingredients. When my friend put the flame to it - KABOOM!

The explosion shattered the 4 big windows that separated our classroom from the other classroom and blew the tiles off the ceiling in about a 15 ft. diameter circle. It threw me against the wall that was perpendicular to the counter where our little work station was and sent my friend tumbling backwards a good 10 feet. I wasn't injured, but my friend separated his shoulder when he hit the ground. No other students were hurt, but it did make McKay Eckburg pee his pants because it scared him so badly, but that is another story for another time.

Because fire is cool. I wonder if starting a fire in a gully that ended up needing 4 firetrucks to come put it out is more stupid than an explosion?

Depends on how the fire got started:devil:

Did you ever make those model rockets as a kid that you could launch with a small cartridge of solid fuel?

Well, the fire got started because we decided that as it was getting dark, it would be cool to soak the model rocket in gasoline and see if it would light up the night sky when it got launched.

It did. And it was cool.

While working at TCBY, I took an empty glass juice bottle, dropped in a couple pieces of dry ice and a little water, screwed the lid on, and placed it out at the bottom of the drive-thru menu, and went inside thinking the next person to use the drive-thru would get a pretty good scare.

About 5 seconds after I went inside, I suddenly had this mental image of a lady pulling up in a mini van full of kids to order some frozen yogurt, leaning out the window to order, and having shards of glass explode into her face.

I quickly ran out to the menu to find a car (not a minivan--so much for my prognostication skills) pulling up to order. I ran over to the menu, cutting the car off in the process, and almost all in one motion, scooped up the bottle, ran toward the revine behind the store, and hurled it as far as I could. The bottle exploded in mid-air, and I felt the little sprinkles of glass pelt my arms as I shielded my face.

I turned around to see the lady (it was a lady! maybe i have some prophet in me after all) looking at me with an extremely confused expression on her face. I don't think she knew the bottle had exploded, and thought I was just being vandalous by throwing glass bottles into the revine.

That qualifies and IMO much better than exploding class room(although the collateral damage of an 8th grader pissing himself ups the ante). This is exactly the stuff I was hoping to read about.

Good one. there have to be plenty of dry ice bomb stories out there.

Little did she know I saved her life.

I'm like Jack Bauer, only if Jack Bauer were the one planting the hidden atom bombs AND the one finding them and diffusing them.

Come to think of it, that might actually be more entertaining than the last 5 seasons of 24.

In 7th grade my friends and I shut down Mapleton main street at 1 AM with some construction road blocks from a nearby construction area.

In 8th grade I ran through someone's house (in front door and out the back) like the scene in Ferris Bueller--but I did it because I feared for my life. Some sophomores were chasing us in a pickup truck and throwing rocks. I'll bet this sort of thing doesn't go on anymore in the immediate vicinity of Provo. You probably have to drive down to Nephi or Mona to see this sort of behavior nowadays.

In high school we were messing with dry ice bombs in 2 liter plastic coke bottles. We waited and waited on one of them to explode but it wouldn't, so smart me, I picked it up and threw it against the brick side of the school. It exploded when it made contact, but it could just as easily have blown up in my hand.

Similarly, we buried 2 dry ice bombs in the ground about 2 feet down. We waited for what seemed like 15 minutes before we thought we needed to removed some of the dirt. they both exploded when my shovel scraped one of them. the video was awesome(sadly it has not survived 5 moves )
