And yet when she sits down next to Tim or the baby starts crying right behind Mark you two will sigh audibly and wonder why she couldn't wait another two years for that mother to take her children on a flight."It's devastating, because we lost to a team that's not even in the Pac-12. I sit in first class. Did you not read the posts above? Take that riff-raff to the back of the plane.Originally posted by kccougar View PostAnd yet when she sits down next to Tim or the baby starts crying right behind Mark you two will sigh audibly and wonder why she couldn't wait another two years for that mother to take her children on a flight. So Russell...what do you love about music? If she was thoughtful she would have waited until her children were old enough to fly without crying.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostNow there is a thoughtful passenger."It's devastating, because we lost to a team that's not even in the Pac-12. Definitely. But in the limited circumstances where flying is a necessity, an exception can made, and protocol established by wife of FN Phat should be followed.Originally posted by kccougar View PostIf she was thoughtful she would have waited until her children were old enough to fly without crying.
(and again, what his wife does is in line with what the airlines would prefer, and for the exact reasons he stated)So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Given that the average flight is 95%-100% of capacity, you are going to have a hard time finding 4, 5, 6 or more seats together that also happen to be in the back of the plane.
So brotha, when we get tickets, they are going to be wherever we can manage to sit together as a family. Heads up.

Thank your wife for me. That's thoughtful.Originally posted by FN Phat View PostMy wife takes considerable efforts to make sure that her and the kids are placed in the back of the plane
I have no further opinion because I figure the frazzled mom flying with infant at the front of the plane is likely a last-minute booking so I try to smile my support before sliding in the earplugs/headphones and going to my happy place for the duration of the flight.

There are a couple of posts here that mention the problem that we have had when flying with little kids. Our kids are fairly well-behaved, so having them act out is not a huge problem. But there is very little you can do for a 2-4 year old that is sensitive to cabin pressure changes.
On our last flight, our 4 year old daughter was fine for about five minutes until her ears felt like they were going to explode. Under those circumstances, trying to get a hysterical child to swallow, chew gum or drink anything is next to impossible. They don't want juice, they don't want ice chips, they just want the pain to go away. All they know to do is cry. So good luck with your parenting skills in that situation.
Call me selfish, but I remember having a very vague awareness that other people were around that may or may not have been annoyed by her pain. But my main concern was on consoling and comforting my daughter. Sorry if you guys were annoyed. I just didn't care a whole lot at the time.

In February 2007, my grandpa took the entire family (63 people) to Jackson Hole, Wyoming for a family reunion (my grandma was born there and her family lives there still). While there, I came down with a horrible cold, complete with a doozy of a sinus infection. I flew home to New Orleans via Atlanta. When the plane came in to land in Atlanta, and we began descending, I had the fire of a thousand suns ripple around my eye sockets, my nose, my ears, and streak back across the top of my head. I went to the doctor the next morning because I felt like something really bad was wrong. He had some instrument that would illuminate my sinuses (he turned off all the lights). They were full of blood because the pressure had broken blood vessels all around my sinuses.Originally posted by bluegoose View PostThere are a couple of posts here that mention the problem that we have had when flying with little kids. I'm very aware of how this feeling might terrify a baby/toddler."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon

Children are more safe to scream on a plane than ever before.

How about some dude who is totally ripping farts on the plane? Should that be cause for public sighs and attitude? Just as babies need to cry, sometimes people get gassy.
Personally, I drink a lot of coffee in the terminal and always hold in my farts to I can crop-dust first class as I am walking by.
