    Kids say the darndest things

    After seeing this photo

my daughter said "Look Mom... Jesus is eating pancakes"

    Nice,

I was scrolling through our Netflix instant que to find a show for my four year old. When I scrolled past the poster for The Proposition, he said, "Noooo, Not the Jesus one!"

My kids were about 8 (boy with aspergers) & 6 (boy who is altogether too normal), sitting in front of the Chistus statue in the SLC visitor's center. I tried to use the socratic method to coax some answers out of them and induce learning.

Me: "What is Jesus doing?" (looking for something like "showing us the nail prints in his hands")

      6-yo: "He's dancing."

8-yo: "Oh no! Jesus DOES NOT DANCE!"

sister missionary leading the tour with only my family in it - <snorts while stifling a laugh>

Me: "I don't think he's dancing. Look at his hands..."

8-yo: I know! "He's MIMING!" (proceeds to do his best solemn Marcel Marceau impersonation)

both sister missionaries <laughing openly - but trying not to embarrass the boys>

Voice over PA system at Visitor's Center: "Behold, I am Jesus Christ..."
      (it's part of the tour)

Both boys - literally fearing the wrath of God, bolt for seats to sit down and fold their arms...

My daughter recently said, "I can't wait until Jesus comes again so I can pet the nice lion."
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Jack (3 y/o): "Papi, I want some candy."
Me: "Why do you want candy?"
          Jack: "Because I want it."
"Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.

While watching Star Wars for the first time ever, my five year old had a couple funny comments. First, she kept asking "What is this movie about?" I couldn't really give her an easy answer. Second, at the end, when Luke is in his x-wing fighter, she says "Babbo (dad), I don't think Luke . . . I don't think Luke is going to make it."

You're kids call you mami and papi? Do you call them mami and papi too? Are you going to ask them to call you papa(accented) when they get older?

what's the big deal falawful? My girls call me babbo, and they'll probably do that for the rest of their lives, simply because that's what they're used to. When they talk to others outside the family they say daddy. I'm sure wuap's kids do the same.
