Love this comment from the link:

"Quite simply put... never, EVER, mess with a guy who is bold enough to wear a fanny pack.."

    That made me chuckle...

It sounded like his gruff voice too.

I can't believe how little people are tazed for these days.

He is smaller and obviously out of shape, but he is being egged on by both the old man as well as the other women in that area. He makes a poor choice, throws a glancing blow that barely touches the dude's chest (not his face, as the old dude indicated), and the old man brutalizes him.

Looking at your analogy, the old man walked out the front door of the VFW, but instead of leaving the situation alone, decided to continue and taunt the young punk. The young punk threw the first punch, but he was seriously provoked. If he had kicked the shit out of the old man this would be analogous to your VFW story, but it turned out different.

If you are a big strong fighter, and you get on a bus and invite a young black dude to spit-shine your shoes, and then the young black dude calls out your racism and indicates that he would like to give you the ass-whooping you deserve, and then you basically call him a wuss and dare him to try it, and after he backs off you continue to taunt him... when a fight breaks out, even if it is the small young unfit guy who throws the first punch, who is the real instigator?
The thing that you are missing here is that mere words are never sufficient to justify violence (legally anyway). The First Amendment protects old guy's right to mouth off, but not young guy's right to attack him over it.

Young guy went looking for violence, he found it. I'm not defending old guy's comments or behavior, but in life you have to know when to hold em and when to fold em. If he felt he had to defend his honor, fair enough. He made his best attempt. I wouldn't have had much sympathy for old guy if he caught a beat down either, though again, he did keep his hands to himself until attacked.

I have a fun game I play with my daughter where I tickle her until she says "don't taze me, bro!" Fun stuff.

I was responding directly to your VFW example where the aggressor DID get off because the system deemed that he had been sufficiently provoked. If you want to draw parallels between your own VFW example, the old man is the loud mouth instigator who gets his ass kicked... except obviously, in this case, the ass kicking is the other way around. IMO, the young buck acted very poorly, and received an UNDESERVED ass kicking. The old bruiser was looking for a fight, was taunting, and chose to keep taunting. When it came to blows, the old dude was brutal beyond the bounds of self-defense.

This isn't about who would win if this were brought to court. This is about the court of public opinion, where this old jackass provoked a small weakling and then ruined his face even after the kid had been beaten into submission.

I see what you are saying. I think my example focuses more on coming physically to the trouble than it does what is said, that is the analogy I was trying to make. It is not a perfect analogy, I admit.

Except the young kid was the guy who couldn't leave well enough alone. The old guy moved, and the young guy went to the front of the bus to continue to jaw. The young guy headed to the back of the bus, and then decided that whatever the old guy said was reason to return and instigate physical contact.

Really, the only difference from UD's analogy is the young guy was both the guy who physically returned to defend his honor and the guy who threw the first punch.

Then why did he move away from the young guy to the front of the bus?

I think the old dude was a little scared and panicked a bit. Sure, he was big enough not to be scared, but he was in a bus full of people that weren't on his side.

Seriously. Dirty cop tazed that guy after the cuffs were already on. Tazers were approved as a safer alternative to guns, not as a tool of revenge when someone pisses you off. They need to be banned if cops can't learn to use them appropriately.

You know there's no way Finderson is going to side with the old white dude. He's the embodiment of everything that's wrong with this country.

Of course. I'm just showing Finderson why he's wrong. I suspect Robin is merely playing Devil's Advocate, though he won't admit as much.

Besides, he has no reason to dislike the old guy, as, at 67, he's too old to be considered a baby-boomer.
