The original schedule had it releasing friday. The iTunes update got pushed back and then there was a huge OSX update Friday as well. New iOS4.2 release date is scheduled for the 22nd. Tentitively.

Today is the day. Now to guess which hour it will be released. I say 10am MST

Through iTunes. Plug it into your syncing computer and hit "check for update". It will walk you through from there.

Yeah. It took quite a while to download but it just finished updating a few minutes ago. Works like a charm. The multi-tasking is great. That was one of my main gripes before. You double-click the button and it brings up a list of running apps. There is also a combined inbox for multiple e-mail accounts.

im at a public library in Irvine right now. there are so many firewalls that I cannot download anything via iTunes. also, i need to update my version of Itunes before I can download the OS update. Looks like my update will have to wait until later tonight.

Im curious about the combined inbox. I already had 3 email accounts hitting my device and had no problems. What does the new version do differently?

You can still look at the individual inboxes, it just gives you an extra combined inbox that puts all of your mail in one list.

Yes, I updated iTunes just prior to the download.

I downloaded and updated.

I guess I was expecting more. When windows updates its OS, the visual is distinctly different.

This update looks exactly the same except all my apps are in different order and there was some new game app installed onto the device.

I still don't know how to organize by sub folders. Can someone help me out? Also, what about this air print stuff? Do I have to download an app for that? Same question for the anti theft tracking.

AirPrint requires you to have a printer that supports it so you don't have to install drivers. The list of HP printers that has AirPrint support is given here. If you have a Mac running Mac OS X 10.6.5 then you can "enable" AirPrint support on it so you can share any printer that it has access to. Future versions of Mac OS X will most likely have this support enabled already.

As for the Anti-theft tracking (aka. "Find my iPhone") this use to require a subscription to MobileMe but now is available for free. Here is a nice article on how to set it up which should be the same for the iPad with 3G.

Yes, this feature requires 3G. It is kind of nice for finding my iPhone. I can send a message and it would play a loud beeping tone for 3 minutes even if my phone is on silent. Another feature is knowing where my wife is so I know exactly how much time I have to clean up the house before she gets home.
