Not so fast. Google said today that there is no iOS6 google mapping app in the queue. Unfounded rumor.

It would be stupid to give that edge away. It's a huge selling point
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I dislike apple earbuds but I dislike these less. They don't hurt my ears, at least. I prefer the comfort of my shures.

I'm not sure what is wrong with the Apple maps that comes with it. I guess it sucks because it is Apple?

I played with 1337's iPhone5 while we were in Utah over the weekend. I didn't see anything different. The screen isn't enough bigger to notice, it is a little longer.

I've never had a problem with the map system and I rarely use turn by turn nav, if ever, so I don't really care about that feature. I will admit that I am present,y unable to watch a movie while I'm typing this, though.

Agree on the screen. It is a bigger screen, but it isn't remarkably bigger by any means.

Yes, I'm going to wait for the iPhone50.

Hey funk, check out this graph. Android users are 2.4x more likely to ditch Android for Apple vs. the other way around.

                    • I think you need to trust your own senses

                      1) Occasional browsing when i don't have my iPad (rare, but it still happens)
                      2) Tethering for both my laptop and my iPad (I could pay extra for the iPad 3G plan, but there is no cheap alternative for wifi on my laptop)
                      3) Google Navigation. Far superior to a Garmin and superior to any other phone-based GPS navigation system I have seen.
                      4) A few other apps that I use occasionally (stop watch, Google voice search, etc.)

2&3 are the deal-killers. But looking at this list, why on earth would I need an iPhone over the Android?

                        You can tether an iPhone.

I think these discussions are silly, but this about captures why I'm glad I went with Android, now that iPhone 5 is out. They're both really good phones, each with their own quirks. I think the switching from Android to iOS will stop now, because Android (or at least, Samsung) has finally figured out that usability is as important as performance. Switching platforms is enough of a pain that there needs to be a distinct advantage to one side, and I just don't see it.

Android pros (GS3, at least--can't speak for the other phones)
                          -Nav
-Battery life (I can put switch batteries, more people with the same charger--I can't believe Apple screwed this one up)
-Screen size (slight edge to GS3, simply because it's bigger but still doesn't feel big--not a big deal though)
-Customizable screens (I hate thumbing through screen after screen of icons, I like widgets, etc)
-Video (DDD will mock this, but I've already used this a few times--watching a somewhat boring video that you have to get through (CME conferences, for example) while surfing and yes, writing email or texting. It's handy for the same reason PIP is nice on TV. I promise you that Apple will incorporate this on their next phone--in a year)
-Compatibility (I can directly stream videos or pictures onto my TV without buying ANOTHER Airplay device)
-Swype (seriously--why hasn't Apple developed an iOS version)
-Google Calendar (I don't know if these are unfounded, but I heard that there had been issues syncing with google calendar. Maybe that's better now.)
-Tapping phones! (You're mocking this, but I promise this will also be on next year's iPhone.)

                          iOS pros
-apps (for me, this is more of a tablet advantage, since I can't think of any app I want on my phone that I cant get, and there are a few that I can only get on Android that I use a lot--a good crossword collector, free music downloads which I'm sure are illegal, and free grooveshark streamer)
-iTunes (the podcasts and iTunes U--I use these on the iPad but it would be nice to get them on my phone)
-OS (edge goes to apple by default, although at this point, it's small--GS3 is much much better than prior Android versions)

Overall, the iPhone 5 looks cool too, but I'm glad I didn't wait for it. I'm guessing iOS users are similarly happy.

I'll file this under DDD's "Everyone else likes my phone better!" tab.

You don't find that chart interesting? The results surprised me.

Funny how defensive you Android users are.

They're not that surprising to me. The first reason being there are twice as many Android users as iPhone users to begin with. So I'd expect more defections. Second, with fragmentation and lots of crappy phone manufacturers out there I am sure there are lots of unsatisfied Android users. This is an issue that Apple doesn't have to deal with by controlling both hardware and iOS.

I'd be more interested in seeing what the numbers are of users using a flagship phone like the S3 or Nexus vs iPhone. I'd be surprised if you saw the same comparative results.
