All youtube videos are encoded for flash but a lot of videos are encoded for h.264 as well. The iPad/iPhone mobile safari only plays h.264 encoded videos. I suspect that the first one is only flash encoded."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Help me, Uncle Ted. You are my only hope.
I have 5-6 movies that I have ripped from DVD and synched to my ipad. Everything has worked fine, but I added a new one today and I noticed that the little preview disappeared in iTunes. Then I synched to my iPad and now when I open the Video app in iPad all I can see is a set of big gray icons with no title and no preview. The movies play just fine, there just is no title. I have found a few (very few) websites talking about the bug and a few suggestions, but nothing I have tried seems to fix it. Ever heard of this? Any suggestions?"There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

It sounds like you need to reset the poster frames for videos your videos for some reason. If you play the video within iTunes, pause it, and then right click on the video you should get a pop up menu. One of the options is to "set poster frame". Try selecting it to see if it will fix the problem with the preview.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostHelp me, Uncle Ted. You are my only hope.

Another way to change this is to go to movies in iTunes and right click on the movie. You should get a popup menu that has an option "Get Info". By selecting it you should get a dialog that has lots of options. By selecting "Info" you should be able to edit the title and lots of other information. By selecting artwork you can take about any jpg or whatever and make it the thumbnail for the video. A lot of DVDs have the box artwork stored in a folder on the DVD.
I have never seen this problem but hope this helps. BTW, you may like to try the app VLC for the iPad. VLC will play about any video file format and not just those encoded for the iPad."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Pardon my ignorance, but is it worth getting the 16 or 32 gig Ipads? Or is it pretty much 64 or bust?"They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

It really depends how many movies and how much music you want to store on the iPad at once. Apps don't take a lot of memory (maybe 100MB per app) and most likely you won't have that many. Video takes about 0.5GB-0.75GB per hour. So with a 16GB iPad you should have enough memory for maybe up to a dozen movies. For 128K bitrate music it is about 1MB per minute. For higher quality bitrates it will be more MB's per minute. For MP3's with 192K bitrate I am guessing it might be about 1.5MB per minute. So for your average 3 minute song it may take about 4.5MB.Originally posted by DrumNFeather View PostPardon my ignorance, but is it worth getting the 16 or 32 gig Ipads? Thanks. The Set Poster Frame option would not work. I could select it, but nothing would change. Could not find Artwork tab in Get Info, but I finally discovered that if I show the artwork window and then drag a file onto it, the artwork would finally change (and I could finally edit artwork via Get Info).Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostIt sounds like you need to reset the poster frames for videos your videos for some reason. If you are running iTunes on something other than Mac OS X then your mileage may vary."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Jeff, dowload metax from the internet. Run your m4v files through it and it will tag with the art, director, actors, etc. all in the appropriate spots, just as if you bought it from iTunes.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostThanks.
