We called ahead to make reservations, but they said they didn't take any, and would seat everyone, first come, first serve. I told them that we were about twenty minutes away, and asked what kind of wait time they had. They told me they weren't busy at all. So we took off and drove down to the OC. It was taking us longer than I thought, so I called ahead and told them that we were going to be about ten minutes later than anticipated. No problem. When we arrive, we are told that the restaurant is just about to close for a private party, that of the owners, to celebrate its first year open. I tell the maître d’ that I had called twice in the last thirty minutes to confirm that we could be seated. She tells me that someone else must have answered the phone, because if she had answered it she would have let us know that they would be closed.

This is when I became 'that person,' the guy who raises his voice in a public space and basically asks 'WTF??' The other guests became quiet (it was a small place), and the maître d’ goes into the back to discuss the 'situation' with the owners. They agree to seat us, but by this time I am so embarrassed (as are our guests from Utah) that I just want to get out of the place and bury my head in the sand. The food is great, but every bite tastes like my shame.

Yes, I had a perfectly good reason to be upset. People can be justified in their anger and still be 'that guy.' I don't know... whenever I've been 'that guy,' I always felt pretty sick about it later. I think it has to do with all of the American tourist douche bags I crossed when I was a youngster backpacking through Europe. Those creeps are an especially abhorrent version of 'that guy,' the entitled prick who insists on ruining everybody's experience because some small thing didn't go his way. I think I would rather be dumped on that be 'that guy.' But once in a while I can't resist.

I get what you mean. I am pretty non-confrontational myself. I had a mission companion who would hem, haw, and haggle over everything. From dry cleaning to food. It was downright embarrassing at times.

Dumb Luke called me Vujacic and pissed me off.
Yeah but who is on your team? You are the only weapon by my count. Unless your Dad played with a messed up shoulder. Did Sister Cannon lace up?

Our team sucks. They paired us with Aquia though. So we got the Blake's. My dad pulled that coup. They asked him who he wanted to be paired up with when we couldn't make a team. Pops played bad shoulder and all. He couldn't make anything though.

I had one of my signature moves though last night. You would have died laughing. I was out at the 3. A kid ran out to close out on me. Pump faked and put him in the pop corn machine. Put the ball on the ground. Looked back at him at went 'pfffft' and shook my head and pulled up for the 17' footer. Nothing but net.
