I played some pickup ball with some coworkers yesterday. I have always been the trash talk Guy but usually can back it up. Now I am trash talk Guy that can't back it up. This has been a difficult morning. Mostly because I can hardly walk. Also because my man pride is in jeopardy. The next transition will be to the In my day Guy. This could be fun making up stories about my greatness, in my day.
I am that guy

I have been there my friend. Just accept the realities of age and walk away it is a lot easier on your body and especially your pride. In fact, I just about to transition out of the In my day Guy phase, I'm not sure what is next, but I assume it will be answering questions about Dr. Naismith's peach basket or what is the best technique when shooting underhanded free throws.Originally posted by FN Phat View PostI played some pickup ball with some coworkers yesterday. I'm that old guy who makes about 10% of his wide open mid-range set shots.Originally posted by HBCoug View PostSounds like you need a "that guy" go-to post move like an off-hand-elbow-to-the-defender's-chest baby sky hook. The adage "the older I get, the better I was" applies, but that's because I was a lot, lot better than I am now.

My 9 year old asked me Wednesday night watching the BYU-UW, "Could you really use to dunk the ball? You don't jump that high now."....Ouch the truth hurts.

I used to be the guy that was a streak shooter - when I was on, ain't nobody could stop me from anywhere inside half court. Now the only streaks I get are in my underwear

You can still be that trash-talk guy and back it up. Rather than do it with flash, be the wily veteran that uses every trick in the book to get an advantage, such as keeping your fingernails filed so they're razor sharp and grab skin with the shirt of the guy on whom you're setting a pick to free yourself up for an open mid-range jumper after you roll off the pick.Originally posted by FN Phat View PostI played some pickup ball with some coworkers yesterday. I'll get to see if I am that guy tomorrow. Our stake is making another attempt at trying to have basketball. I haven't played in 9 months at least. I am going to be shooting the rust off.

Sorry FN Phat. I am not that guy. At least not today. I was the only reason our team had a chance to win both games. The first quarter I had 14 of our 18 points in 8 minutes. 6-7 from the field. 2-3 from behind the arc. The 3 I missed was at the buzzer. I don't know what I finished with. Dumb Luke called me Vujacic and pissed me off."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

I've been 'that guy' before. One time I had some vegan friends visiting from Utah. They had done their homework and knew of a Raw Food restaurant they wanted to visit down in the OC. We called ahead to make reservations, but they said they didn't take any, and would seat everyone, first come, first serve. I told them that we were about twenty minutes away, and asked what kind of wait time they had. They told me they weren't busy at all. So we took off and drove down to the OC. It was taking us longer than I thought, so I called ahead and told them that we were going to be about ten minutes later than anticipated. No problem. When we arrive, we are told that the restaurant is just about to close for a private party, that of the owners, to celebrate its first year open. I tell the maître d’ that I had called twice in the last thirty minutes to confirm that we could be seated. She tells me that someone else must have answered the phone, because if she had answered it she would have let us know that they would be closed.
This is when I became 'that person,' the guy who raises his voice in a public space and basically asks 'WTF??' The other guests became quiet (it was a small place), and the maître d’ goes into the back to discuss the 'situation' with the owners. They agree to seat us, but by this time I am so embarrassed (as are our guests from Utah) that I just want to get out of the place and bury my head in the sand. The food is great, but every bite tastes like my shame.Last edited by RobinFinderson; 01-23-2010, 07:16 PM.
