    MTC pranks

Maybe there's already been a thread on this, if so I apologize.

The only prank we pulled in the MTC was the old stand by where you put the alarm clock behind the mirror in the furniture console (or whatever that thing was with the clothes hanging space and drawers. Some new district would come in and you'd set the alarm at 2AM and put it in that odd empty space behind the mirror (and for some reason, there was even a removable board on top of the furniture console/commode/whatever.

My older brother, who has an even more crass sense of humor than I (yes, it is possible) pulled off a better trick no doubt inspired by Caddyshack. My great aunt sent my brother a bunch of fudge while he was in the MTC. The fudge wasn't that tasty so my brother and his companion decided it could serve a better purpose. They woke up bit earlier than usual and proceeded to use the fudge has play doh and formed, you guessed it, a foot long turd that they shaped to look kind of like a yam. Of course, they placed it in the communal shower. The whole floor was enthralled by the fake giant turd and I believe someone built up the courage to finally approach it and remove the object.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Some missionaries in my district took great amusement at supergluing quarters to the shower floor and also dropping their soap.

Our standby was gluing glasses to cafeteria trays with honey, salt, ice and water.

When I received my mission call, the MTC sent me a packet of material, including a list of items to bring with me. The list plainly requested that I not buy a day planner, as one would be provided for me. When I arrived at the MTC, I was given a folding piece of blue cardboard to serve as my "day planner."

That was a pretty funny prank.

In retrospect, I should thank the MTC and the LDS Church. Franklin Day planners were becoming all the rage in the late 80s early 90s and I had never owned one. I was going to use my mission as an excuse to finally partake. After the disappointment of the folded blue cardboard, I decided to eschew all day planners and to this day I can proudly state that I have never owned a franklin day planner (or Day Runner, the popular off-brand Franklin-killer sold at places like ShopKo)

This wasn't in the MTC, but I had a companion that had a sketch artist draw a picture of me with two of the teenage girls in our mission around me. He then posted it in the mission office so that everyone that went in the kitchen saw it. I didn't find out about it, because I was in another city until someone gave me a picture.

When I was a teacher, I used to greet new classes with nothing but lightning-fast Japanese and gestures (odd misprounounced English word here or there for authenticity). I had this whole persona worked up where I grew up in Japan and had been adopted into a Japanese family that moved back to Japan after the adopted me and didn't know any English. Leave aside that, as a practical matter, that scenario is nigh near legally impossible (not to mention improbable), my Japanese and Japanglish ability is such that I can convincingly pull it off. I would keep up that charade for the first couple hours of class - until one of the sisters inevitably would get close to tears - and then I'd pop out of character, let them in on the joke, and use it as an example to show them that the MTC wasn't going to be as hard as it could be.

Stuff was usually thrown at me at that point.

We'd put a vacuum under a bed, turn it on, then flip the breaker that controlled the outlet. For whatever reason, the outlets behind the beds were on their own circuit, so you could flip the breaker without any lights or clocks going off. At some obscenely early time, you flip the breaker and the vacuum roars to life and scare the crap out of unsuspecting elders. There were many times new missionaries came running out of their room, not knowing what was going on.

As for non-prank related antics, the district I was in did its fair share. There was the dry ice bomb, the pinata (that's where we got our yoyos which the MTC president banned two weeks later), and the naked butt sliding. My comp was district leader, so we got the mail, then went back to our floor. We couldn't distribute the mail because no one was there. Then we heard whooping from the bathroom. Everyone else had soaped up the floor and were laying on their backs at one end and pushing off the walls with their legs to see how far they got. They thought we were stupid for not participating, but when they all got rashes, we were sure to mock them.
                Not that, sickos.

Isn't it some inside joke? I'm on the outside, but have heard multiple references.

I always imagined a speakeasy as the kind of place during prohibition where you could get booze and engage in casual conversations about sex.
