I bought a panasonic HD camcorder. It is pretty sweet, small, lightweight but we do not use it near enough.

Lay off the tick? Are you kidding me? The chick jumps down my throat for speeding!
No, I am not kidding you. Ever had a blowout going that fast? Ever had your timing belt break doing 100 mph on I-15 near Paragonah? I was lucky that there was no one driving by me when I had the blowout, or else I could've caused a major accident. When the timing belt went out, I did cause an accident, indirectly.

Again, sir, lay off the Tick. NonSequitur and FN's vocalized opinions aside, you are not helping yourself by ripping into el garrapatas.

I came up behind him...and switched lanes...and squeezed through him and some other car in the slow lane. .

Jumping in late here. I don't have a problem with you driving 95 mph. I have a problem with you passing on the right. You should have slowed down and waited for him to move over. Coming up on him at 25+mph faster than he was traveling you likely didn't give him much time to notice you behind him. For all you know, he was probably just getting ready to move over when you passed on the right and you spooked him. NEVER PASS ON THE RIGHT!

If you're driving significantly faster than traffic (and I do occasionally) don't run up behind people. Slow down as you approach. Wait for them to move over. If they don't move, I have no problem with a friendly flash of the headlights. In fact - in my car the "Brights" flash is actually labeled "Passing".

Don't run up behind someone then swing right to pass. You're just asking for trouble.

I agree. Passing on the right is not cool. I did something uncool...but not finger worthy....which was my only point. Not to mention...Christmas Day finger worthy.

If you ran up on me from behind going 25 mph faster than me and then pulled into the right lane just as I was trying to move over to let you by, I'd certainly consider giving you the finger.

I don't really have an opinion. I'm just fanning the fire while you guys are out gathering wood.

Tom-Tom GPS recently released some figures it has been tracking, including average speed of its drivers by state. Not a real surprise that the top 10 fastest driving states are some of the sparsest in terms of population. Utah is no. 4, behind Idaho, New Mexico, and Mississippi. Arizona and Nevad are also in the top 10.

It also released some figures by route. As it turns out, I-15 between Nevada and Utah (I would imagine Las Vegas to Salt Lake) has the highest average speed of any stretch of road in the country: 77.76 mph (75 is the speed limit).

Edit: I was just reminded that there is a stretch along I-15 where the speed limit is 80 mph. I'm told that is the highest speed limit in the country, tied with some road in west Texas. I'm sure that has a lot to do with the average speed on I-15.

                    This I-15 talk reminds me....

For those of you who have made the drive to Las Wegas or L.A. (or anywhere going south on the I-15 from SLC), what do you think is a reasonable speed for the trek?

I made my last drive from L.A. to SLC in about 10 hours going 80-85 mph in the fast lane. Am I stupid?
