I flipped someone the bird today

I am a pretty easygoing guy. It usually takes a lot to get me riled up. But the idiots driving in this snow have pushed me over the edge. I wish these people would stay home instead of endangering my life and my insurance premium. Unfortunately it also brings out the biggot, the misogynist and whatever it's called when you hate old people.

So some idiot who nearly hit me making an illegal turn while on their cell phone received an early Christmas gift from me. Gidget was embarrassed and tried covering up my hand. My middle finger ain't a little bird. It's a freaking condor.

It liberating to give the bird every once in a while. A few weeks back I should have used restraint and flipped the bird instead of the verbal tirade I unleashed in the cab of my truck.

I was going 70 down the freeway and a genius does a lane change in front of me going about 50 mph. I had to lay on the breaks pretty hard and I let a "Mother F***ing asshole" slip past my lips. Not all too bad or uncommon unfortunately (I have an road rage issue...), except I see the blank stares of my kids faces as I looked back in the rear view mirror. I forgot they were in the car because they were so busy playing their DS's. OOPS.

At least you didn't suddenly come to the realization that you just flipped off someone from church. That would sure make things awkward.

I delivered pizza for six years. This leads to some unfortunate lasting influences on my driving behavior.

          1. I always feel like I'm in a hurry.
          2. I talk to other cars.
          3. I swear at other cars.

I also drive one of three Dodge Magnums in my whole town, and if I flipped someone off, word would get around. For example, in November, the family went to Pizza Hut for dinner.

The next day at school, no <redacted>, like ten people said, "How was Pizza Hut last night?"

Yeah, that night my wife and I were in my office talking and the kids were in the living room watching a movie. I told my wife what had happened, and then to try to lessen her concern, I told her I thought that the kids may not of heard me since they were so into their games and they didn't say anything. At this point from the living room echoes my sons voice "yes we did!"

That kid has bionic hearing because the movie they were watching was loud and my wife and I weren't talking all that loud. So I got busted......and I have to watch what I say around the house more often as well.

My wife honked at a guy who cut her off and as she passed him he stuck his tongue out at her. No lie. We decided that must be the Utah version of flipping the bird.

I actually dreamt that I flipped someone the bird last night and then I realized my son saw and I felt guilty.

When I used to run on the streets of Provo, my middle finger was a little loose. I don't know that I have ever flipped a driver off while inside a vehicle though.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

I called someone a douche bag the other week in the car. Unfortunately Gidget and our little menehune were in the car also. As soon as it came out I regretted it. Without missing a beat my 3 year old asks, "Why you say doosh bag?"

Then I had to explain it was a bad word. Then got a lecture from Gidget. And also had my daughter chastise me and tell me to say that anymore.

douche bag is a funny insult. I mean, you may as well call someone Monistat 7 or maybe even hemorrhoid cream

when my wife and I had our first child, she was worried that the only words they'd learn in Italian were cuss words. I find it funny/ironic that the only cuss words they know and use are the English cuss words they hear from Mom.

I have two profanity modes: inactive and nuclear. Usually I hover in the "inactive" mode - I don't swear that much. Oh, there may be an odd word or two here or there, but it's in casual conversation, without malice and usually ends up being of the damn/hell variety as something to give my conversation more color. Only my closest, closest friends (read: pretty much only SHW) hear my talk like that. I've stated here before that I don't find the actually words - as words - to be offensive at all; it's all about intent. But I recognize that is not a common view so I try to be considerate of others.

If you get me riled up (very hard to do) or put a tool in my hand (very easy to do), however, I go straight nuclear. I have never used the C-word or dropped the Lord's name. But everything else is fair game. I try to make sure my kids are not around, but they have picked up a word or two from me.

I do think in profanity, however, simply because I'm around it a lot and grew up using it.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

My oldest brother is usually about .05 inches from losing complete control and flying into an insane rage. I think he has been working hard on it over the last few years and has shown some signs of improvement.

One day after I think he had just started to work on his temper I was riding with him and his kids when a guy cut him off getting on a freeway on ramp. I was ready for him to lose in and he kind of did. He slammed on the gas pulled even with the guy and leaned over and gave him the "hang loose" hand sign. Then turned to his kids and said "I bet that guy doesn't even know what that means." I did all I could to hold in my laughter.

Now when I get frustrated at someone on the road I flash "hang loose" and think that I bet that other driver doesn't even know what that means.

Your story reminded me of this.

yeah, that's me, too. I've never gesticulated to anyone while I'm driving. But I have this involuntary reflex when the ***holes in their Dodge Rams fly past the school bus flashing red lights at 45 mph while I'm loading my kid onto the wheelchair bus.

My middle finger extends very easily when I'm on my bike which is a little stupid because all they have to do is turn around and run me over.
