Just sold a car through Carvana. Super slick process where they quoted me online and gave me an offer. I got a bunch of other offers from dealerships and other used cars places (including Carmax) and Carvana's offer was $5,000 more than the other highest offer. Tbh, I wouldn't have taken any of the other offers given how low they were as I could have sold to a private party for a little more than Carvana offered, but I'm still shocked at how much higher their offer was.

Interesting. They were around the same as other dealers in the area when I sold earlier this year. Markosian here in SLC gave me almost double what any other dealer was offering.

What killed the FJ? I thought Toyotas lasted longer than that. A friend last night told me about a Tundra he was buying with over 700k miles.

I think he's saying that he originally intended to hold onto the FJ until it dies. But now, even though the FJ still lives, he's considering trading it out for a new Landcruiser because of the hearts in his eyes.

on the other side of the garage my wife’s 2010 Tundra just hit 200K. Still going strong.

In the driveway (until he moves…) my son’s 2008 Sequioa has 180K. He got super lucky buying it with low miles. I’m sure he’ll hang on to it for awhile.

We left New Zealand with 70's degree weather and came back to snowstorms. My 2014 FJ, normally excellent in snow, hit some ice going downhill and spun out, hitting the embankment of the sidewalk on the other side of the road. For a brief 5 seconds I was glad to not have hit anything else. Then, BANG! Side air bags deployed when a huge Ram 2500 truck hit me behind my door. Other than ringing in my ears from the airbags and a mildly tender shoulder, I was OK. The FJ, alas, is not, The huge dent in the rear panel looks like it might have involved the frame. And the insurance agent is 90% sure that they will write if off just because of the fact of the deployed airbags. So I am preparing myself for the loss of a solid vehicle.

The write-off value is going to be around 30K. I'm renting a LandRover Defender right now. Pretty balling and much more refined than my FJ, but I don't see me dropping 80-90 grand for that. Would love to get my hands on a new Land Cruiser but those look like they're 10 months out. Mrs. NWC were musing last night about her selling her 2010 Tundra and getting a Tacoma, and me leasing something for a year until I can get a Land Cruiser (our 2 car garage on an incline and sharp entry angle only allows for one large vehicle; I doubt I could get a large truck and another SUV in there without a struggle).

I'm not going to get a Subaru and I really don't want a generic SUV. If I get anything that has a nice interior I'd need to break my habit of letting dirty dogs jump all over. I'm not averse to getting a used vehicle if there's a model and year out there that's solid.

Anyone here have a favorite they'd recommend?

A low miles 2022 Lincoln Aviator - is what you need.
