I unfortunately haven't dressed up for Halloween in awhile now. I dressed up as a shower two years in a row (two entirely different locales, the latter being NYC). All it involved was some PVC piping, a backpack, a hula hoop, a shower curtain and some duct tape. A surprisingly easy costume to make. I rode on the subway with my costume in hand, some people figured out what the costume was from and they laughed.

Another lesson I learned from the shower outfit- making a complete ass of yourself in a guileless manner makes you more approachable.
I rounded at the hospital last year as the Grim Reaper. I went into random rooms and would say "Your doctor asked that I come and check on you......It unfortunately does not appear that you are ready yet." I would then leave before they could say anything. The hospital CEO requested that I stop after 2 families complained.
"The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

"They talk about the economy this year. Hey, my hairline is in recession, my waistline is in inflation. Altogether, I'm in a depression."

"I like to bike. I could beat Lance Armstrong, only because he couldn't pass me if he was behind me."

<initiate threadjack> An anesthesiologist here in town got religion a few years back and fell into the habit of telling folks as they were going under "You're in God's hands now." I think it only lasted a week or two. <end threadjack>

I wore my Princess Leia costume to kindergarten today to help with my daughter's party. At least half of the class had no idea who I was. I think lot of parents had no idea who I was either because I got a lot of funny stares during the Halloween parade.

That is a cute costume and I have considered making one for myself or my kids before but I thought the box would be too uncomfortable and limiting. Has she complained much?
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

The DVD was quite the conversation piece, although it was known for both good and bad.

For every "hey, you are a DVD (or CD)! that is cool!" I seemed to receive a "I don't get it" or "what is that?"

                    A few guesses:

                    satellite dish
                    donut
                    solar panel
                    DirecTV
Light of Christ (what? someone actually guessed this. I said, "no, I'm actually a DVD")
                    Drowning inner tube guy

For tomorrow night's main event, I will have to include some sort of branding or marking indicating DVD.
                    Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

This would have been a great post for The Foyer 2.

HFN Jr. is the Unknown Phantom, Captain the Red Ninja. I was really surprised when we started looking at Halloween stuff this year, I thought they would want to go with a movie character or superhero, but neither did. Goose is Minnie Mouse, not pictured.

ps the dent is from my son. He was trying to throw a baseball through the hole in the middle last night when I was upstairs. you can see other dents but apparently he really let one throw fly.

I love the hardwood floors, DDD. I am not hip enough to pull of that look but have always admired it.

It takes hipness to pull of hardwood floors? Who would have thunk?
