I've been looking for a job for over a year now. I just graduated law school in April, and I was sworn in yesterday. As things have progressed, I've set my sights lower and lower. It's disheartening to know that I can't even get a job as a law clerk, let alone an attorney position. So I'm coming to CUF for help in thinking outside the box. I have degrees in philosophy and law, so what kind of jobs should I be looking for? My hope is to get into JAG, but I won't hear back on the Army or Air Force until December. Given the fact that getting selected is a crap shoot, I need to keep looking for work. If you have any ideas, let's hear them.

Move to the deep south, hang out your shingle, find a person that a mega/evil corporation has screwed over, in a little guy takes down the big guy type victory win the first one billion dollar personal injury verdict, and then have John Grisham write a book about you.

Where are you licensed? Utah? Have you considered taking another bar? While I don't need the competition, Nevada might be a good bet. I think there are still a good number of jobs here for licensed attorneys (much harder to get a job here before you pass the bar, though), at least compared to Utah. I couldn't get a sniff in Utah.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Sorry dude. Maybe you have connections I didn't have. I knew exactly zero practicing attorneys in Utah when I graduated.Originally posted by DU Ute View PostI feel sick.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Too bad you didn't go to the U of U for law school. They are the best law school for placing students in Utah.Originally posted by falafel View PostSorry dude. I don't know where you heard that, but everyone at the U knew that statement was false. Maybe even with BYU, but definitely not ahead.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostToo bad you didn't go to the U of U for law school. Humor is good. I can use more of it right now.Originally posted by Shaka View PostOk that suggestion was out of the box but not productive. I feel for you. Hopefully things will work out soon.
Yes, in Utah. I took the bar here because it was the most convenient, and I thought I would've been in JAG by now so I figured I'd just worry about Utah's since it's relatively easy. I am considering taking another bar. The only problem is that I can't really afford it.Originally posted by falafel View PostWhere are you licensed? Utah? Have you considered taking another bar? I can't count the number of times I've heard that from SJQ grads. I think I've told you before how embarrassed I am of the U's career services office. The teaching was great, but career placement was sad. They had previously alienated several local firms and were not making any efforts to re-establish relationships with them. If you can't get local firms to recruit from your school, what good are you?Originally posted by Donuthole View PostI can't count the number of times I've heard that from SJQ grads.
