Is that all this is about...privacy? Do people post their innermost secrets on the board there knowing that you are all sworn to secrecy? Seems kinda odd to me.

If this desire to keep the contents of the Crypt a secret is 100% due to a desire for privacy, then by all means, keep it secret.

But if people would be embarrassed about their actions within the Crypt as it applied to other posters, it might help them to get it out in the open.
Not secrecy. Privacy. I'll be generous and suppose that if somebody took a picture of your junk and posted it on the internet, they wouldn't be giving away any secrets, but you'd still want them to take it down.

        Thank you for being generous.

I also understand that you have a public persona that you don't want sullied by people finding out what you've posted in secret. Hypothetically.

Not "innermost secrets," per se, but certainly some personal information.

I have a public persona? News to me. I always thought I was pretty non-descript.

Everyone has a public persona. Especially people with a few thousand combined posts on various BYU message boards.

But how many of those were in the crypt?

An excellent point. I'm not sure; maybe you can supply that information.

Look, all I'm saying is that we may benefit from a clearing of the air. I'm not saying people should post their personal information, but maybe if someone made a disparaging comment about another poster and now feels bad about it, they should come forward to clear their conscience.

If you recall, I have made my share of mean-spirited posts and even apologized for some of them. It has made me a better poster, I believe.

And all I'm saying is there's nothing wrong with having a safe haven for personal information. I'm no more ashamed of what I've posted in the crypt than you are of what you did to your wife during your honeymoon. But I doubt you feel the need to air it out to the rest of us, either.

To think there is a safe haven on the Internet is very trusting of you. I believe said safe haven only exists for applications of a corporate nature, and even then it has it's limitations. But I totally get tour desire to clean your name and I agree with it.

There are many safehavens as long as others don't feel the need to pry. No security is foolproof, but most security doesn't need to be.

That's why when a new message board is created, I immediately register so nobody else will steal my persona.

The latter part of this thread is full of unintentional comedy.
