The attacks were direct (i.e. person A is a piece of crap, because he engages in MLM vs. people who engage in MLM are either naive or morally bankrupt.)

Overall I have been pleased with the moderation that I have personally witnessed. It seems to be focused on cultivating a safe forum where individuals can respectfully post ideas without fear of disparaging personal attacks. I missed Viking's post and that thread, but Lebowski, you are contending that the post contained direct personal attacks against a person's family? Viking, is that the case?
I railed on the travestshamockery of the MLM business model.

I don't know of the secret CUF handshakes and keywords, and thus I can't access the vaults of internet glory to remind me of my exact language. I'm sure that it could not have been construed as anything but an attack.

I am willing to acknowledge that the poster was probably pretty innocent and my reaction was probably not fitting of his crime, which was just modest puffery by association (of which I am routinely guilty of as well).

I apparently ruined the kid's day. It has yet to be proved that he is related to John Beck, though the odds are quite high.

The entire thread was deleted. People in Utah County are in awe of these shysters and perhaps one of the mods here is one him/herself. It's a mystery.
The real mystery is why you backed out of meeting Rocky for lunch with your "business partner." You come across as such a likable, open-minded, well-rounded, non-judgmental, humble, successful follower of Christ. Poor Rocky is seeking the virtues of life and you seem like just the man to put him in his place.

I was the moderator who moved it. AA asked me to do so and I honored his request. As far as I'm concerned, there wasn't a anything more to it than that. Viking and others who posted in that thread, I apologize for not letting you know the reason.

Yes, that's a huge mystery isn't it? Actually, I sort of got freaked out by the guy. Insisted on calling me a "pussy" on about 10 different occasions; got a boardmail suggesting the guy was a bit freaky and decided that it was better not to meet in "real life".

It didn't bother me; it's always nice to meet the "higher power".

How brave would you have been to make the same remarks about your opinion of AA's uncle if you were sitting next to him in "real life" looking at his photos? Isn't the security of the internet great? It sucks when "real life" forces an individual to use class and dignity.

That's a very good question. I would likely not associate with him and wouldn't have the chance to comment. If I did, I'd probably employ the powers of socratic thinking bestowed upon me by my lawyer father and ask him to disprove the premise. Note that said powers are rarely, if ever, used on the internet

That's odd, because here you saw his photos and chose to associate with him. Couldn't pass up the opportunity to butt into the conversation and essentially say, "excuse me, but here are my presumptions of you and what I think of you."

Who was it that said: The way a person conducts himself, when there is no fear of punishment, reveals his true character?

I recall that saying from our Koran section at Jesuit CP in Dallas, junior year. I don't know to whom it is attributed.

You make a very good point.

And this is precisely the reason why I should have kept it in the private forum to begin with. My mistake. I shan't repeat it.

I was too harsh and accept that in "real life", I would never have been so inappropriate. Please accept my sincere apology.

                              Ouch, Viking. You got

                                Seriously, though. We're square, Viking.
