Maybe we could just vote. (Just an idea, not a request.) It doesn't seem like we should be asking for much work from JL for little to no incremental benefit.

I'm indifferent on the mobile interface. It's nice that it loads faster, but I also don't get all the features (who's online, images automatically loading, etc). I'm fine with either way. If more people use the iPhone than some rinky-dink cell phone, I don't care if we stick with the full version.

(By the way, thanks for looking at this again, Lebowski. Perhaps you should just make the call on what option's easiest for you.)

Surfah, there is an option to list mobile devices where the mobile style is not applied automatically. Do you think all blackberry users would be in the same boat as you? I could list that device as an exception.

I'm easy. I was used to using my BB to navigate so going back would be fine. OTOH, the mobile is certainly faster and less cluttered. Thanks for you work on this JL.

It seems that another very simple solution is to turn off the automatic detection and let people change the style manually each time they connect with a mobile device. What do you think?

I think that is the easiset solution.

I am pretty certain that styles run with the cookie, so a user can choose the mobile style on their phone and still be able to view on the desktop in full version simultaneously.

I'll roll with the majority. But I too like seeing pictures and the other features a full web browser uses. For those that don't use opera mini I highly suggest it. Even though it allows me to view an entire page, it optimizes the page when
I zoom automatically. For example, when viewing CUF the entire post is formatted to fit the viewing screen. This is especially nice when reading news articles also. I think it's free to download and available on most phones. I've been using it on my Nokia for years.

the nice thing about opera is that it is rendered on opera's servers, then the mobile version is displayed to you.

I'm not really certain of the security ramifications. I tried to install opera mini once, but it failed. I've been too lazy to troubleshoot, but I'd bet money it is because I installed onto my SD card instead of ROM.

I like the mobile version, thanks. One question: the entire User CP doesn't load in the mobile version, and it doesn't appear that you can change the style via the drop down menu while logged in to the mobile version, either. I changed my default style to mobile in my CP, and now I don't see a way to change it back. Does anyone know how? Thanks.

On my BB (older model with track wheel and not trackball), I had to click the drop down menu in the lower left hand area of the page while holding Alt to access the other options to switch views.

Here is the problem...you can't change the style via mobile, and you can't change the default style via mobile, either. So, I suspect, your only recourse is to have one of the admins log into the admin CP and change the default style back for you.

It is possible to hack this style to add the hooks for the style changer, but I don't think it will be worth the effort. Better to just login and fix your problem in 30 seconds.
