I don't think the committee will create a new forum but you can create a Social Group on your own.

I created Umami but I'm too danged busy to post in it frequently and it seems the other members don't have much to say

    http://www.cougaruteforum.com/group.php?groupid=5

If you want we could reinvent the group and make it about photography etc. I might even share some custom Photoshop actions, brushes and tutorials I have created. In turn you could teach me some Xcode!

If the tutorials are online, how about some pointers to them? I would be more than happy to let you know if they're any good.

They are only available to my students -- and you're not the code guy right. That's Nugent and Space Ghost.

If the management want to tidy things up, get rid of the book club because it is redundant (books are media, and belong in the Critics Corner).

The Gallery would be a genuine new offering, and could replace the redundant Book Club.

I'll post an actions set later.

orrr...you could start your own board and keep it as tidy and taxonomic as you like.

The Gallery! Dude, make it happen (and get rid of the book club! The only thread anyone really cares about, between Cormac McCarthy books, is the 'what are you reading now' thread).

I could do that, but I don't want to. What is a town without a gallery? A town without a gallery. We've got creative people here. One forum for original work. That would be rad.

That's not a bad idea. We probably should merge the two fora. We have discussed this before in the EC.

Uniqueness is a necessary but not sufficient condition. Don't hold your breath.

I don't think that uniqueness would be enough (avoid making categories merely for the sake of refined taxonomy). I think The Gallery would be more than unique. Here is the pitch:

                          1. The Gallery would host original creative work. Creative work could be Space Ghost's photography, or YOhio's poetry, or SU's novel (piecemeal), or Lebowski's soil field analysis studies, or Shaka's guitar/amp creativity, or any of our musician's original work, or basically any creative and/or professional accomplishment that people would like to share with the community. It would be a sort of Pecha Kucha night for CUF. We have a lot of great work going on here, and it would be cool to have a place where we could recognize that.

                          2. The Gallery could also become a hosting place for the annual CUFfies, and could contain links to any of the day-to-day posts that citizens find memorable. This would be a sort of yearbook where newbs could get caught up on the local culture by reading examples of some of the more interesting conversations from days past. There could be stickies for things like Noteworthy 2010, Noteworthy 2011, etc. where people could link to ANY post that was noteworthy. These would then serve as the foundation for CUFfy nominations at the end of the year. This would improve the CUFfies.

                          3. Featuring creative work inspires creative work. I have no doubt that the photography thread has inspired more than a few shutterbugs to go out and shoot around. Having a place where people present their creative work will encourage others to get out there and do something creative.

There you go. The idea for a Gallery. Honor the original work of the CUF community by elevating personal accomplishments and awesome posts above the level of chit chat.

Sorry tooblue. You with your drawing talent was an obvious omission from the list of our creative folks here.
