You are projecting. I don't advocate for junkie in these threads. I don't advocate against atheistcougar. In fact, in this thread, you have said disparaging things about both whereas I have said nothing personal about either. If you have a history with junkie or whomever, that is your biz, but just because others are silent doesn't mean they have taken sides. Go read about neutrality. or indifference.

I also don't take issue with anyone's methodology. I don't care what methodology anyone employs here. If Junkie behaved poorly, then let him have it. Tell him so. Everyone is free to do so. He doesn't need any help and he doesn't merit any special treatment. But I'm not in the biz of calling for behavior mod from the membership.

If you folks like to stir it up, so be it. But I don't understand the pleas for assistance or moral outrage as a result of poking a stick into a beehive. It is always best to walk away. It would be best for everyone to not take things so personally. That is a best practice for every message board.

And by the way, DevilDog is a jarhead so we can forgive his malapropism, but he has a point....being able to walk the walk and talk the talk is ...well.....ok, I don't really know what his point was but I wanted to draw attention to his misuse of the common phrase!

Words are just words, cougjunkie, coded signifiers of a signified meaning. I favor precision in speech, usually, over imprecision, variety over repetition, and novelty over commonplace. I'll admit to delighting in vaguery sometimes and an occasional complexity to convey meaning secretly in plain sight, but I don't use words to feel or appear smart, a fool's errand. Your boy's use of "eleemosynary" tonight was the first time I had ever seen that word in English, but I didn't have to look it up because I know what "limosna" means in Spanish and I immediately understood what he meant. Why do I share that with you? Not so that I can feel smart, because I don't care. You asked, so an honest guileless answer is that I'm answering your question via a demonstration of how useful words are to a language professor. They are the tools of my trade and knowledge of them is a natural extension of the profession. So, no, I didn't use "caustic," to feel smart. I used it because it perfectly describes my perception of you from CUF and MW2: caustic.
