  • Introduction

Allow me to introduce myself. I've decided to stop lurking and add something one and a while.

    age - 51
eductation - two ba's - econ and computer science from Weber State (12 yrs apart)
    location - Layton, Utah
Hobbies - History, traveling, computer stuff, sports, reading ( both history and fiction esp historical fiction and Science Fiction)
mission - Japan Kobe - along time ago
    profession - Oracle DBA
Married with 3 daughters one grandson.

Grew up as an Army Brat, ( lived in Washington State, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah and Germany, 26 houses by the time I was 16 ) but since by Dad retired in '73 have lived in Layton except for my mission and my own stint in the Army.

Recently lost 135 lbs because 3 yrs ago, I stepped on the scale and it said 300. Also I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes and I didn't want to die in pieces

Have alway joked that if I ever win the lottery ( I know first you have to buy a ticket ) I would get a phd in Byzantine History ( something that there is absoulity no market for ).

I hope add something to the conversations here occasionally.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

Welcome happyone. 135 pounds is insane and impressive.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Very cool. Hope you stick around. You'll be able to brush up on your Japanese here too.

Like I said I don't want to die one piece at a time. I saw that happen to my grandfather. ( 3 major amputions in 18 mth and was awaiting another round when he had his heart attack and passed ). I've actually put about 25 lbs back on ( it has been a very bad year = MIL passing FIL quintaple bypass, BIL passing with no will or any kind of estate planning ). I've gotten back to eating plan and have lost 10 in the last month. I need to lose that last 10 again

I may be small, but I'm slow.

Welcome. Some additional maturity on the board will be nice.

Echoing BYU71's comment, and ignoring the young whippersnapper's rude retort, I am please to welcome someone older than me to the board. This is rare. Stiuck around and hlpe us wise and mature guys try to educate the kids around here.
              PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Welcome! It's nice to have another in the CUF AARP subchapter. We've got a few in the >50 crowd. Your presence may help counteract the image BYU71 and I have cultivated of aging disgracefully.

Given the increasing number of boomers on this site (creekster, PAC, 71, happyone, et al), maybe we should start a "Geriatrics" category where you guys can discuss vitamins, canes, good deals on all-you-can-eat buffets, liver spot removal, etc.

In fact, you guys should plan a meet-and-greet at BYU's home opener vs. Florida State. You can all meet up at the mall at 6AM and do laps inside while you get to know each other.
                    Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Good idea! They can meet up at Gold's, take a row of ellipticals and talk about when Coke was only a nickel.

But it WAS just a nickel. ANd penny candy was a penny, and sometimes you got TWO pieces for that price! I tell you, the world has gone to pot.

How long did you lurk for, and how often? How did you find the site? I wonder how many people are out there silently reading us on a regular basis.

Over the past 15 years, I've spent about $50 on single powerball tickets here and there. Never had more than two numbers. Jeez that's $50 I could have donated to the CC before sending Bronco a mean email.
