Keep making this about me. I'm waiting for you to actually enter the debate instead of merely appealing to your own authority without making any arguments.
Thank you, JohnnyLingo, for calling out Jeff Lebowski on his BS!

Another example of what I will heretofore refer to as a "C.L.M." (Classic Lebowski Misrepresentation):

      Lebowski v Lingo?

      I feel like it's 2004 on Cougarboard ;-).

Good times. Gentlemen, I am confident you both have excellent qualities so I'll try and stand above the fray.

That said - Lingo, your characterization of the climate change debate here roughly parallels my own.....

No, but I have skills... you know like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking, and the Dalai Lama once told me when I die, on my deathbed, "you will receive total consciousness". So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

Sorry. Sometimes I can't resist poking the bear.

When you say that climate change is the biggest scientific hoax ever perpetrated, I sincerely hope you are correct. That would be wonderful. But I am not so sure.

In terms of the science, I am skeptical of the extremists on both sides. We don't have any pro-warming extremists here so I occasionally nitpick the anti-warming extremists. Hence some people (cough - lingo - cough) conclude that I am in the pro-warming crowd. I do know enough about computer modeling that I can call bullshit on many of the modeling arguments that are put forth. I also know enough about the modeling process to know that there is a relatively small handful of people in the world with the sufficient background and training to give a really informed analysis of the modeling. I also know that finding potential problems with a model is much, much easier than proving the accuracy of a model. So I have neither the time nor the inclination to embark on a defense of the climate models. For some odd reason, that drives Lingo crazy.

In terms of policy implications, I am skeptical that anything we do will make a substantial difference and I worry about the economic impact.

While Pelagius might approve, it is actually Pellegrino that created the template, as was mentioned erlier in the thread. What are you trying to petal here, anyway?

by a different name than you did on CB back in 04 as I don't recall our debate. But I have no doubt that it happened :-).

                          Lebowski, everyone benefits

from witnessing a balanced argument. Which is why I sometimes find myself cast as the token conservative in the room and sometimes as the token "liberal" (I will grant that this is more of a pose than the first).

That is the correct answer. However, I have to say you lost me on not liking Foo Fighters. I'm not a rabid Foo Fighters fan, but they've got some great stuff.

The most shocking thing I read in this profile is that Oxcoug listens to Wolf Parade.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.
