It was all about Heaps. His progress shot off like a rocket the last 4-5 games including the bowl. No I don't blame the coaches or the receivers. Heaps got better (or more confident) through the season. I don't know about Utah. My gut feel is they were overrated all season and more like a #30ish team. We started out like a #60ish team and improved to a #30ish team by the end of the season. If we played Utah 10 times at the end of the season last year, I think we win five.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostIt was certainly a tragic comedy of errors that facilitated the Ute victory. I think the talent level was closer than you indicate. Between BYU's youth and the coaching instability it took time for the talent to rise and to be properly utilized.
I think BYU is on the verge of a very nice run.
Yes, BYU is on the verge of a very nice run.

Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Riley Nelson isn't on my list. Check that, he's on my shit list.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostI think Heaps is and will be better than anything Utah currently has on depth chart a QB.
Quezada? Right now...Quezada is certainly a better bet. Going forward, I think Utah has more "potential" (I know, I know...) at RB. Next season, BYU gets the nod. After that, not so sure.
Hoffman is a nice looking receiver. However, I think Utah's going to surprise at receiver over the next couple of years. I don't think this is a Hands-down win for BYU.
I also don't think Fuga is clearly better than the guys on Utah's D line. Kaveinga is an unkown. Van Noy would be a great upgrade for Utah.
Also, not sure how Riley Nelson makes that list. At what position? I'm not pining for him at QB and Utah is thin and inexperienced at QB right now. Maybe if you move him and his athleticism to another position, but then he's unproven.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Is there any consideration that after whoopin' up on the rebels, then rolling through Austin, kicking Utah's ass and beating UCF at home, we have two more home games and could be 6-0, having beaten a Big12, Pac12 (barely), and a respectable C-USA UCF, we could be 6-0 and in the hunt for the BCS? We will have ESPN on our side, to boot.
I was planning on cheering for the 'horns but i might have to cheer for the cougars, in light of this.

You got a couple of my 6. Van Noy is one of them. He is a talented player. He could add a few pounds but the kid can play the game.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostHL is not a fan of Jordan Pendleton and neither am I.
But I agree with CJ about BYU's oline.
I also like Heaps, Quezada and Hoffman at the skill positions over anything Utah has.
Then there's Van Noy, Kaveinga and Fuga on defense.
As for Kaveinga and Fuga, they aren't 2 of them. Kaveinga still hasn't done a thing on the playing field. Why would I want him? Until I am proven otherwise, I will hold him in the same regard I hold most transfers. I honestly don't think that a healthy Fuga would start for Utah. He would play but IMO he wouldn't start.
As for the O line, Reynolds is clearly the best lineman in the state and it isn't close. As for the rest of BYU's line, sans a kid that just returned from his mission that I think will be the anchor once Reynolds graduates, Utah and BYU's o line is a push IMO. Hansen and Brown are good players. Terrance Brown needs to find a treadmill and a diet plan. BYU has a couple of talented kids waiting in the wings. For Utah, I think Cullen, Bergstrem and Stevens are really good players. Utah has a couple of talented kids that have the ability to step up this year."Take it to the Bank"

Heaps is the only commodity that you list that is clearly superior.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostHL is not a fan of Jordan Pendleton and neither am I.

Lotuliei, Hemuli, D. Krugar, and possibly Aiono(having a monster spring) are 4 players on the DLine that are better than Fuga.
I would take Langi over Quezada.
Hoffman is a good receiver, but he can be shut out by good press coverage. Ken Scott is going to be the best receiver in the state in 2 years. He would have made the rotation last season until he brok his foot the last week of fall camp.
Van Noy had some good moment last year and would start in Utah's LB crew this year, but Jacoby Hale is going to make an impact and I am willing to bet that Blechen will have a better season than Van Noy.
Kaveinga hasn't proven anything on the field except that he wasn't good enough at USC."The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."
"They talk about the economy this year. Hey, my hairline is in recession, my waistline is in inflation. Altogether, I'm in a depression."

I'd take Quezada next season over Langi next season. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I think the experience in the system and a year of DI under his belt will give Quezadilla a step up. Now, in 2 and 3 years from now, I hope/expect Langi to be a better RB.Originally posted by Jarid in Cedar View PostHeaps is the only commodity that you list that is clearly superior.

I'd take Van Noy at LB. Of course, I'm basing that on the fact that Hale hasn't proven anything on the field yet, either.
Heaps is the player that I covet the most. I'm not saying he's the second coming of Jim McMahon, but I think he's a lot better than anybody on Utah's QB depth chart, injured or not.

Maybe as a unit BYU is better (it's certainly more experienced), but anyone who would take Hoffman ahead of Devonte Christopher just isn't paying attention or chooses to be ignorant. It's a claim so ludicrous, it's not even worth dissecting.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostI think Heaps is and will be better than anything Utah currently has on depth chart a QB.
