  • byu game thoughts...

    1. Oklahoma is dumb. Have you not watched a byu game in the last 2 years? Why wouldnt you pass the ball? The dbs are unproven.
    2. both teams had a ton of penalties. the first half was terrible to watch
    3. byu's D were hitting hard. The dbs tackling has much improved.
    4. Injuries happen... Unga was out for byu. Bradford went down. If your team is much more than the lowly MWC you should be able to fill in.
    5. JJ Dilugi played a great game.
    6. Pendleton played a great game.

Regarding #1, I have no idea what the hell Oklahoma was thinking running the ball so much in the first half. I guess they really really didn't trust their OL. Given how many times Bradford got hit on that last drive, maybe they were right to run the ball after all.

Manase helping to pick up the blitz was huge.
      BYUs o-line held tough
      The Dbs were solid
Pendelton and Clawson both had the games of their lives
Sloppy play on both sides (penalties and turnovers, BYU won this game going -2 in the turnover battle)
Jacobsen and Chambers are going to be good
      Pitta was solid.
I thought in the middle quarters Max looked skittish but let it all hang out on that last drive.

Great, great win not only for BYU but for the MWC. The Mountain West is for real.

HUGE win for the MWC...it'll have a legit top 10 team and a few knocking on the door all season long.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Now we need wins over Florida State, Oregon, Virginia and Clemson.

If this doesn't motivate EVERY SINGLE TEAM in the conference, but especially the top 3, then nothing ever will.

I would give more props to Bryan Kariya than JJ DiLuigi. But the whole team played great.

                agreed... sorry I confused them.

No worries. I would do the same if I were watching a Utah game.

Great game overall, your run defense was lights out. The safety fill on sweeps and off tackle was killer.

Several things stand out, but the goal line stand was especially huge. And I think this game for Hall will prove to be as important as Beck's TCU win was for him. Up to that point, Beck was a good QB who seemed to get a bit flustered in tight situations. Hall has certainly been that way, but that final drive was a thing of beauty and may mark the beginning of Hall II

btw... the play calling for byu was good. Called screens at just the right times. also the 4th and 2 quick play was brilliant.

Fantastic coaching job. Bronco really had those guys ready to play tonight, no question. A few coaching decisions really stood out, mostly:

                            1) Pressure on the QB. They knew OU had an inexperienced offensive line. They put pressure on them and confused them most of the night. Awesome games by Joregenson, Clawson and Pendelton putting pressure on the QB.

                            2) Offensive game plan running the football at OU. IMO, this was HUGE. You put your team in a mindset that they can compete by being physical and moving them back. With Unga out, I am sure OU thought BYU would throw the ball 50 times. It probably caught them a little on their heels, and gave BYU some confidence. And a little confidence can go a long way.

                            3) The 4th down play call where they lined up and went. They knew what to do. They didn't get it on 3rd down, they didn't panic and get a delay of game, they just executed. Good coaching and great job preparing the team.

Great win for the Cougs. One of the biggest in their history. Now, time to become an OU fan the rest of the season.

Kariya ran tough. I was surprised how well they were able to run against them. When they went between the tackles with Tonga leading there was almost always positive yardage.

Tonga was great in pass protection. He blew up a LB on the first big Kariya run up the middle. When Unga is healthy we're going to be decent.

The OL surprised the hell out of me. That's arguably the best front 7 in the country. They gave up a few sacks. But protected Hall well enough to secure the victory.

The defense though was the best I have ever seen the Cougars play. Rich put some big hits on guys and forced that fumble, then stood up the RB when Pendleton forced the other one. I have never seen BYU tackle so surely and hit that hard collectively as a group. They didn't give up any big plays. They got to Bradford and Landrey. Jaime Hill called a great game. His zone blitzes were awesome and had OU confused all night. Logan and Bradley were more than solid. Each had some big tackles and PD's. Clawson and Pendleton were impressive. Great game by the D to hold that offense to 3 scores. They all came on short field possessions too. OU hasn't had that many 3 and outs in a long time. The D was the MVP.

Hall was great when he needed to be. The game winning drive was beautiful. Calm and cool. Pitta stepped up big time. The line did their job and Hall led them efficiently. Took 8 minutes off the clock. And props to Anae after that head scratcher of a delayed draw to JJ and running the quick play to Pitta on 4th and short. Ballsy call. Executed perfectly.

And Bronco. He prepared this team well. And he was more than classy and gracious in victory.

This is the best win I have ever witnessed as a fan. I cried when I ran upstairs to tell Gidget we won.
