So long, Jake. Hope you realize the odds of transferring QBs with any success is ridiculously low.

You should stay put, work on your game, take off the green jersey next year in practice, get the shit knocked out of you a few times, redshirt and lead the team as a junior.

That's how basically all the BYU greats before you did it; why would you be any more special? You've shown nothing but youth up until now.

Any pocket passer with a brain would be running as far away as you can from Doman's offense, Mangum included.

I hope Heaps doesn't transfer, but I would if I were him. He isn't getting the coaching here.

Transfer QBs can do just fine. Cam Newton and Russel Wilson are two recent examples who had 1 to play 1, so Heaps with 3 to play 2 would be fine if he could find a good fit.

Cam Newton was a JUCO transfer with 2 to play 2.

Who had transferred from Florida first.

Well, you're correct, but he only needed one of those years to turn into something amazing at a brand new school, which was my point.

              Why, exactly?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Look how many times Nelson decides to run on designed passing plays even against Idaho St, and we all know how Heaps looked when he had to sit back there and try and execute Doman's passing offense every down. I would see NOTHING to comfort me about Doman's offense if I was a pocket passer, especially a highly touted one with options like Mangum.

Because it isn't clear that there's anybody on BYU's staff who knows how to put together a successful pocket-passing scheme or teach players how to run it. Maybe they can, but they haven't yet. I wouldn't blame Mangum or Heaps for bailing.

He can't tell you why. His main thing is that he loves Jake and hates Riley.

The fact is a pocket passer would be fine in the offense provided he gets time, can get through his reads, and throws an accurate ball. Jake can't do a thing about the line's poor play but the other two have him stymied at the moment.

You forget one thing.....right now Jake can't throw any pass let alone be a pocket passer. Pretty tough to judge an offensive scheme when the principle ball deliverer is underperforming.

But all 4 QBs are underperforming. Maybe that's some really bad luck having 4 QBs that are all choking, but wouldn't parsimony suggest we starting blaming the coaches?

There are so many factors that differentiate Cam Newton and Russell Wilson/Jake Heaps/Garrett Gilbert, it's crazy to use them in the same context.

Sure, but we're only discussing this because it was said that transfer QBs are very unlikely to do well, and that statement doesn't seem to be true. Granted, Heaps would need to find a staff able to coach him up in addition to an offense that suits his skillset, but I bet he'd be more successful elsewhere unless BYU hires a spectacular QB coach and Doman improves in a hurry.
