  • BYU Pro Combat Deal

As most already know, rumor has it that the Pro Combat deal has finally been done much to Bronco's chagrin. The unis themselves sound sick though. Will playing in them for one game end BYU football tradition?

(I didn't see a thread for this, but if there is just delete this)

Nike wanted to do a Pro Combat uni for BYU in 09 vs. the Utes. The game where BYU twore the royal blue uni's. A big reason why they did the royal blues was because when certain people found out about the Pro Combat offer they were disappointed they wouldn't be able to wear them because Bronco said no and wouldn't do it. It is my understanding that after that they came up with the idea of wearing the Royal Blues for that game.

What is pro combat? Is that like the jerseys the Utes wore this year?
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Not exactly. I don't think there were any proceeds donated to the military (but I could be wrong).

Here's Ohio State's pro combat unis from this year. I thought they were sweet.

Boise State - also loved them, but tons of people did not.

TCU - not quite as cool as the previous years

Reading the thread about it on CB, the planned pro combat unis sound pretty sick. I really like what they did with tOSU's this year, and apparently the BYU plan was something like that. I prefer that more classic look to the crazy technical look of TCU, although I did like the TCU ones. I even liked VaTech's, although they were weird.

Each of the Pro Combat unis beat the wounded warrior project unis hands down. Sorry Under Armor.

So... what benefit does Nike receive for forcing teams to wear these uniforms they go to great trouble and expense to produce?

Then we can thank Nike either way...

merch sales. if they're selling authentic pro combats around the time of the game next year, i would spend up to $200 on it if it was as sweet as the cb post makes it sound.

I skimmed the CB post about this... so I wonder if the "Rise and Shout" on the collar won out or they put the "Band of Brothers"?

this is accurate. most people think that byu had the plan to wear the royal blues in place when the pro combat offer rolled along and that's why they didn't do it. but it was bronco's weird hangup that it would somehow throw of the history juju. byu and nike seem like they have an odd, if not unhappy relationship. i'm just glad it's not adidas or reebok.

I just bought a Nike BYU shirt... the blue one w/ the cougar w/ the sailor hat/beanie on. It's sick, but those Nike sizes are too damn big. I wear a medium tee and I had to get the small. It's still baggy on me.

Based on the shirts Nike has been producing for the Y this year, they took note that we BYU fans/Bronco love/s the old school traditional looking stuff-- i.e. above-mentioned cougar shirt, the 1984 Champs shirt, etc. I would be willing to give them a fair shake on the Pro Combat, but if they are looking for revenue, they need to put out some damn McMahon, Detmer, Hall, Beck jerseys. It's so hard to find that stuff.

A small? Never divulge your size to online bullies.

Do they sell the jerseys? I haven't seen any of the previous ProCombat jerseys for sale. I have seen t-shirts and hats, though.
