  • BYU as an Independent

Let's say that for all intents and purposes, Utah to the Pac 12 is the last move of the offseason. Would BYU take a look at being an independent? With it's rival leaving and the conference in limbo, it seems like it would be a good time to explore it.

The revenue in football would obviously still be there, and there would be nobody to share it with. TV is pretty much there. The other sports could probably be absorbed by the WAC if the MWC wouldn't let them stay.

    Is this a viable option?

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I've always thought BYU as an independent is a reasonable alternative to the WAC/MWC. But it's like the choice between a fat girl and an ugly girl. Not ideal.

Ha ha. If only we had the clout to pull something like this off. Maybe we pull a Texas and in a couple of years create our own network. Anyone? Anyone?

You've already got BYU tv...how many discussions on the D&C from the 1970s do they need to run?

BYU couldn't survive as an independent.

It will be great when BYU fans get over their identity crisis and again settle into some certitude and perspective. How long will it take? Thoghts?

BYU won't be an independent. The MWC is no worse off without Utah than they were without BSU. The MWC needs to lose particular teams, gaining a team didn't materially change its position and losing a team didn't materially change its position. Dropping Wyoming, UNM, or UNLV is the only MWC move.

BYU-TV is a huge revenue maker for BYU.

Is this a joke? Serious question. I thought it was a non-profit station.

You've already got Holly Rowe as the sideline reporter...

Just because its non profit doesnt mean its doesnt make revenue.

Most of the time people equate the two, since revenue without profit isn't very valuable. But let's pass on this discussion. I think we both understand.
