Hey, not all of the teachers and priests in my ward are "troubled". And besides, they are calling it a High Adventure.

This is big business in Southern Utah, not just Zion's. We call it "hoods in the woods".

My BIL lives near in a rural area where a couple of these outfits operate. Occasionally he will get a runner that wanders in to his house with some elaborate story. They are easy to spot because they have no shoes (they take them away to try to keep them from running). He always acts like he believes them and invites them in the house for breakfast. Then he slips out the back and calls for someone to come and get them.

Those kids are lucky. They could have been sent to Canada.

At least Siberia still has some of its rustic charm.

There are parts of Canada that are very similar to Siberia. Sad to say there is nothing like Southern Utah in Canada.

Inasmuch as they are inhospitable places used to rehabilitate (punish) troubled teens, yes.

Have you ever traveled the north shore of Lake Superior? Breathtakingly beautiful, exceptionally raw and untouched. One of the most beautiful drives I have ever taken.

Central, Az (Near Phoenix) and on the Mogollon Rim is where the Az one is located. My high school buddies used to be counselor's on these "walkabouts".. I like to camp, but not for months at a time... I never understood the attraction to it...

my neighbor is a counselor at one of these camps. She says you'd be surprised at how many of these teens are not troubled, they're just thrown away by their parents because the parents don't want them around. Some camps charge $1000 per day. Some of the kids are kids of european royalty.

I've heard similar stories, I'm not a fan of those organizations as general rule

Provo has at least two schools, if not three, that deal with troubled kids. There“s one on 500 W by center street, and one or two up at the mouth of Provo Canyon. I delivered pizza there, and the places are like prisons.
