  • 2010 College Football Pre-season rankings

With Spring training in full swing for College football and College Basketball close to being over. The writers have already begun to submit the chatter over who is #1 for 2010.

As many know Bama will more than likely remain #1 but look who is #2 in some rankings..

    That is right. Boise State..

Some have them ranked from 1 to 3..

It's nice to see Arkansas as this year's version of Ole Miss.

Also, when will people stop hyping up the Tar Heels? They haven't finished the season ranked since 1997.

The about.com guy needs to update his Oregon prediction.

What a difference a BCS bowl win makes.

TCU was down at 21 in one poll and they have everyone returning. What a lost opportunity!

These rankings are absolute crap. Pre-season rankings are such a joke I don't know why they're allowed.

How does Cincy still get ranked so high? No Brian Kelly. No Tony Pike. And same with Oregon. Oregon is still top 10 with all of the turmoil and suspensions they've had this offseason? HFN, do you think they're top 10? And Boylen I'm with you, how do schools like UNC and Arkansas get so much love? And Navy even made the top 25. For real?

I'm ok with Navy being ranked, they are turning into a perenial top 25 team

They've had one top 25 finish in any poll back in 2004. And before that 1978. I am a fan of Ken Niumatalolo (really only because he's Hawaiian and LDS) but I don't know how you can argue they're turning perenial top 25.

I hate preseason rankings because in reality nobody is really anywhere on them, and if we had a CUF top 25 my first few weeks would be very fluid people could jump from unranked to top 10 or fall from 2 to out of the rankings based on play.

That said Masoli will be a huge loss, and I have a hard time starting Oregon inside the top 15. With no JM they still return 17 of 22 starters, including all 5 OL so they should be a team that wins at least 8 games as a low side expectation.

They start with New Mexico in Eugene, then travel to Tennessee, then home for a game against Portland State (It was supposed to be Central Michigan which for some reason I was super excited for, but they backed out). So worst case they are 2-1 but likely 3-0 after OOC. Then they get the top P10 teams Stanford and Arizona in Eugene.

That was long and rambling, short answer no they should be 16-25 range. But still could/should win 9-11 games and be a top 5 team.

This is good for Boise, obviously. At a pre-season #3, an undefeated Boise will play for the title. And all the anti-BCS whiners will invent some new drama in their lives.

Big jump for the Broncos this year, a three game schedule after last years 1 game schedule.

They aren't hiding from it. Their schedule has always been lousy yet they have been to the BCS twice and won both times. Being that as it may, if they start the season ranked that high and then run the table, they will play for the title.

ps why did you include Wyoming, just out of curiosity?

Yes they've learned from watching Florida. Last year the Gators scheduled a bye before their one game (@ LSU), but couldn't pull off the W in the SEC title game, despite playing a high school team the week before.

Boise returns 21 of 22 starters, thanks largely to being the only FBS school who allows Prop 48 players.

It's been 6 years since Boise allowed Prop 48's.

Because Wyoming beat the third best of the WAC... and might be an "up and comer." wait a minute... why is Wyoming listed?

I would love nothing more than for a WAC team to knock them off. I respect everything that BSU has accomplished and they do have an amazingly talented team, but man do I want them to lose. last year in Logan I was cut off by a gigantic truck with Boise State flags on the four corners of the bed. No way I can forgive their football team for that one.

I haven't had a chance to look at all of them, but I am assuming that since Utah returns our BabyFaced QB, they are in the top 10. That would make sense.
