  • BYU's lone "national championship" tainted?

LaVelle Edwards had a hard time winning bowls even against middling BCS teams. He'd lose the NIT first round equivalent of bowls year after year. Then the NCAA football system proved itself to be so morally bankrupt that BYU found itself playing a 6-6 bottom half of the Big Ten team in a bowl game played on like December 19 for the "national championship." lol BYU had not beaten a single team that wound up in the top 50 of the Final national polls. Still it had to muddle through and beat that Michigan team in a close game. Tainted? To this day BYU has not won an impressive Bowl Game. Its big bowl moment was against Kansas State in the Cotton Bowl. lol.

Aren't you really just upset because you don't even have a national championship that rival fans can pathetically attempt to deride by putting it in quotation marks?

The logic of BYU's 1984 "national championship" is much simpler: they were the consensus #1 at the end of the year and we have a big shiny crystal football to prove it.

I would have bet $100 SU's innane hatchet-job post would have been up within 10 minutes of CJ's innane hatchet-job original. I'm shocked and frankly a little disappointed it took so long.

I would not trade 2008 for your "national championsip." I would certainly not trade 2004 and 2008 for your whole history. Not even close. 2004 for your 1984 is a closer call, but I don't think so. Sorry. Just being honest.

Well, that's good, because nobody in their right mind would trade a national championship for a BCS win. Tebow wasn't crying at the end of the Alabama game because he was so happy to have a chance to win the SUGAR Bowl, you know.

SU, perhaps you can be the first to make a case for a more deserving '84 National Champ than BYU. After 25 years, I have yet to hear a compelling argument for any other school.

I want you to know I'm hoping Utah can improve its football and basketball fortunes soon, perhaps rising as high as second place in either sport, if only to relieve you of all the bile you have to keep choking back whilst looking up at BYU of late. You seem doomed to serve as the sports equivalent of the slave who stands on the back of the commander's chariot, whispering in his master's ear that "All glory is fleeting." We know that. But it's fun to enjoy in the present.

No, you are clearly upset. 1984 will always and forever get more play than either of your BCS bowl wins. Heck-- Jim McMahon's Miracle Bowl performance will get more play than those wins.

You do realize we have a Heisman, right? Something's up man-- cheer up.

So does the University of Chicago, by the way. Thing of beauty, it is-- it's on display in the athletic center.

Well, just to prove to you I mean what I say, I wouldn't trade Utah's 1997-98 basketball season for 1944.

The difference between Utah and Tebow last year is Utah finished undefeated winning the Sugar Bowl. I'm sure Florida would rather have last season than BYU's 1984.

                            On THAT, we can agree.

Right, because winning the Sugar Bowl is better than winning the national championship.

yah. You're probably right. What would they do with another useless National Championship trophy, anyway?
