  • The wall is coming down ...

I'm teaching from 8 til 3 today. At home my wife and children (on March break) prepare to take down a kitchen wall. Yes, it's load bearing. Later I'll post drawings my wife made and then the drawings her father made to submit to the city for approval. Before and after photo's will also be shared.

    It's a brave new world-kitchen!

I have been hitting refresh constantly. How long do we have to wait?
There's no such thing as luck, only drunken invincibility. Make it happen.

      Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday
      Today is Friday, Friday (Partyin’)

      Tomorrow is Saturday
      And Sunday comes afterwards

I always have Faith and Little Robin take down load bearing walls when I am away, because hell if I want to be around when the house comes falling down.

Shortly after getting home from work I discovered the missionaries were coming over for dinner. On top of prepping to take down a wall my wife managed to put a roast in the oven and bake a pie

          Pics:

Ok, so just the dry wall was taken off ... Friday the wood structure comes down and supports go up until we can span a beam to permanently support the weight of the second floor. I'll be at work but my father in-law will be here. They will do well -- after all they framed a bedroom and bathroom in the basement, not to mention redirected the duct work without me.

It's nice to see that at least someone in the family puts their carpentry and wood working skill sot practical application!

And here are portions of her father's renderings for the city:

Took me a minute to orient myself... So the wall behind the fridge is the one you took down, right? Did you know the water lines to the upstairs were in the wall, or was that a surprise? At least there's no drain coming back down through there. And the door over by the sink will be moved to where the sink currently is? Where will the sink be relocated? Under the window? That looks like it would give you a lot more open area, and a better flow. You'll love it. I did something like that 10 years ago. (Or, more properly, had it done.)

Is your wife British? I noticed her 'I beam 8" off centre' on her plan, instead of '8" on center'.

                        1. Yes, the wall behind the fridge.

                        2. We knew the water was there ... my father in-law will redirect the plumbing Friday before the wood framing comes down and the supports go up.

                        3. Yes, the door will be where the sink currently is.

                        4. Yes, the sink will be moved to under the window requiring new plumbing by my father in-law and grunt work by me.

                        5. She's a stunning Canadian.

She must hate American spell check. Unless you live in Canada...
