  • A woman and power tools ...

This is the first year in a while I didn’t get Mrs. tooblue a power tool for Christmas. Her father made up for by giving her a hand planer for her birthday.

When will that home repair/renovation forum be created? She's planning on taking down a wall this year in preparation for renovating the kitchen. I'd post some pics etc.

when you say a hand planer, do you mean a mechanized planer or an old school hand plane?

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

I would like to play with power tools but Tick says I would hurt someone, and that someone would probably be me.

Mechanized. He already has every old school hand plane one could have in addition to two shops full of equipment. From the size and weight of the wrapped gift we knew is was a power tool for her shop!

Don't listen to him. My wife does all the construction work in the home save the grunt work -- that's my domain. She drywalls, does the electrical work, reupholsters etc.

We have been in our home seven years. She has rebuilt our mud room with cubbies for shoes and hooks for jackets. Framed a bedroom and full bathroom in the basement. Built a tree house in the back for the boys. Redirected the duct work in the basement when we changed furnaces. Tore up the old grass and laid new sod and patios in the back yard and now we are about ready to remodel the kitchen. Woman get things done -- they just need the tools.

There is not going to be a DIY forum but I am going to get a thread going with links to existing posts

Her father was an industrial arts (wood and metal shop) high school teacher for 30 + years. She loves it. Start your thread. I'll post pics from her back yard project of this past summer.

Has your wife been sent to the hospital because she gave herself a concussion walking into a pole? Was she also talking to her students at the same time about being safe and aware of their surroundings?

Did you wife also sprain her neck and give herself a concussion trying to do a front flip onto a bed? Causing her to miss a trip to Utah with her husband?

Power tool = Death Wish at my house.

That is true in my house as well. The poorest grades I ever received in school were wood shop and metal shop. My projects were a great source of ridicule by my brothers. I have no aptitude for home projects, so my wife does them. Funny thing though, I am a pretty bike mechanic.

Your wife sounds like my SIL. My brother always gets her a new power tool for Christmas.

I may be small, but I'm slow.
