BYU was more prepared and more controlled yesterday. They did what they had to do to win. They deserve a lot of credit for the way they played and responded in overtime.
Which is why Hall's comments bother me. Not because of what he said necessarily, but because all anyone can talk about now is how they support/hate him and what he said, followed by why the comments might be right/wrong. No discussion about how BYU's defensive backfield played well, or that Reed/Brooks disappeared after the first quarter, or that Chambers might be the MVP of the game, or that Phillips came through every single time we needed him despite being an afterthought coming into the season.
Another thing I hate about the comments is it fortifies the stereotype in the minds of the idiots on both sides. Because Bauman and Hall have spoken to this idea in the media, idiot BYU fans now have even more license to go off on how Ute fans are subhuman and feel it's their right to belittle red-clad supporters because they hold the moral high ground. And idiot Utah fans now feel like they should and can live up to the stereotype by demeaning and possibly even verbally abusing BYU fans.
I love this rivalry. I got to see so many friends and people I really like yesterday, and I thoroughly enjoyed the game. I don't care how hateful Michigan/Ohio St is or how LSU and Arkansas fans don't exactly sing "Kumbaya", I don't like the idea of BYU and Utah being mortal enemies, and I don't like seeing people from either side that I enjoy being around buy into that mentality.
