  • BYU-SDSU Thread

Just over 24 hours until kickoff, and I know there's not a ton of excitement for this game, but I have a question about injuries:

-Earlier this week, Tialavea said that his knee was at 90% and seemed like he expected to play. Now he isn't traveling to the game.

-On the other hand, Scott Johnson and Manase Tonga have been listed as "possible" all week (I read that as a 50% chance), but both of them evidently practiced yesterday and are game-time decisions.

-Can someone explain to me why the 90% guy is not allowed to travel, but the two 50% guys have a chance to play? Is there more to it than the fact that some of them ran around in practice on Thursday?

    You are right.

There is not a lot of excitement for this game. Part of me wonders why I am even going. I would rather watch other games on TV.

KatyLied said it best the other day. Hard to get jazzed for some of these awful opponents.

Last time San Diego State beat BYU was in 2000, and it was a 1-point win in which Charlie Peterson quarterbacked for the Y.

Wake me up when TCU comes to town.

False. SDSU beat BYU 31-10 in 2005 and remains one of only three schools in the MWC to have a victory over Bronco as the head coach. That was the turning point for BYU in this decade, BTW. They figured out in that game that they could be a decent team if they would run the ball.

They are holding Tialavea out so he is 100% for TCU.

People can say what they want but I think BYU is looking past SDSU a little and you know what I am fine with that, we can bring our C game and still win. SDSU has given up 30 or more points in all of their losses this year, granted all 3 of their losses have came on the road at UCLA, Idaho and Air Force.

They have 2 home wins against powerhouses New Mexico State and Southern Utah.

Wrong, SDSU beat BYU 31-10 in 2005 under Bronco.

            Edit: Fast fingers there, TheBYUGuy.

I'm stoked because it is my birthday and I won't feel guilty about taking a three hour break from studying pathology to enjoy some cake and cougar football.

I always take BYU football breaks anyway, but at least tomorrow I won't feel guilty.

What makes you think BYU is looking at all toward next week?

Doh, that's what I get for scanning the results instead of reading them.

Also, I guess I completely blacked out that game. Way to go Aztecs. I will take you a bit more seriously from now on.

Call it coachspeak or whatever, but FWIW, Bronco says they don't do that:

Asked if the caliber of the opponent affects his decision whether to play a guy or not, Mendenhall said it doesn't.

"It would be easy to do. But I don't. To me, every game is important, any chance you get to play the game is important. I get questions about that quite frequently, but it is really not part of my philosophy."

You could say that this is more about Tialavea than it is about SDSU or TCU.

We went and grabbed some grub for dinner and then went swimming (it is really warm here this week). Just put the kids to bed. My wife is at an RS meeting, so I am relaxing watching the Angels game.

I am trying to get excited for the SDSU game tomorrow. I honestly feel nothing. Total ambivalence. what's wrong with me? Is anyone here really "excited" for the game? Are you pumped up? Are you anxious? What do I need to be doing?

SDSU is staying at my hotel tonight before the game tomorrow.

Fire alarm at 3 AM anyone?

I'm excited, since the last football game I've been to was the 2007 Vegas Bowl. I think my roommate and I are going to just talk to scalpers to try and get tickets. Hey Triplet, where are you sitting?

I am much more excited for a few other games being played today.

Great day of games in college football today.
