      Few thoughts:

1.) This is a pretty good BYU team. The OL is the best it has been for a long time. The skill players are solid but unspectacular. If Bushman were healthy and Wilson plays well this could be a good BYU offense. Defense has a couple of good players with next level talent mixed with a big group of experienced guys good enough to get FA contracts before being cut before the final roster of 53 is announced.

2.) BYU is kryptonite to Service Academy teams. BYU struggled with Air Force far less than other teams did back in the day. That is because Service Academy teams rely upon teams missing assignments. BYU isn't a top tier team athletically but they are usually older and more disciplined. Since SA teams cannot outathleticize BYU, they play into BYU's hands pretty well.

3.) Navy was really ill prepared for last night. Given the restrictions they operated under they were just not going to be able to compete with BYU last nite. President Ken knew that going in but scheduling BYU first under these circumstances was a death march for Navy. Army will be a much better test. I still think BYU wins that game comfortably-although I will cheer vociferously for my beloved Black Knights. A good part of BYU looking that good was Navy looking that bad- but nobody wants to say that so more credit will be given to BYU than they probably deserve.

4.) This is a good schedule for BYU and Kalani at a year they both need it. BYU's kryptonite is speed. BYU usually has the power to compete with most BCS programs but speed kills BYU. That is why even good BYU teams struggle with a team having a down year from a good BCS program- because while they are not good football teams they have fast players. Good SA teams are good because they are so well coached and execute - not because they are faster than opponents. This year BYU doesn't play anyone that has amazing team speed. Perhaps they get a really good program in the Bowl and it is much easier to deal with speed that overwhelms you only a few times a year. BYU sets its football program up for death marches every year with this recruiting philosophy that has them playing 5-6 BCS programs per year. BYU has a shot to demonstrate itself as having the potential as one of the better non BCS programs this season. Kalani could use that type of political clout and hopefully the powers that be come to understand that winning is important and scheduling commensurate to resources is a wise pathway to winning. So either up the resources (NOT GONNA HAPPEN WITHOUT BCS INCLUSION) or ratchet down the scheduling to about 3-4 BCS programs per year.

Navy! What a bunch of losers! Suckers! Why did they sign up for this game? What was in it for them? Same goes for Army.

              Topical humor. Well done.

That was fun. I could nitpick here and there, but I'm still basking in the glow of a solid victory.

I talked with a friend who grew up with the Romney Brothers' dad. He said that during quarantine, all they've done is work out together, because there was nothing else to do. Gunner definitely looked bigger.

Gunner had a rough start but looked great in the second half.

I thought he looked a lot bigger as well.

That game was a lot of fun. Unfortunately the cynic in me dots this one with an asterisk. Navy looked like about week 3 of fall camp- I saw some nice individual efforts but they couldn't do much as a team. I cannot believe they didn't do live tackling in the run-up to this game. I hope the team doesn't get all gassed up now because of their performance and they just keep ironing out the wrinkles. Feels like we're going to run roughshod over our watered-down schedule.

I enjoyed it ok, but this whole thing is suspect, obviously. I've been burned by the first game of the season setting expectations too high before. Haven't you?
