  • Last year at the Washington game

The night before our whole crew went to the Mariners vs Yankees game. There were a lot of BYU fans at the game.

At the same time the football fireside was going on. Do you think there are people that think a "true" BYU fan would be at the fireside. It was funny, I almost felt like I was breaking the Sabbath being at the baseball game instead of the fireside.

This year we will be just finishing up on the golf course when the fireside is going on. Am I setting a bad example for my kids.

I know Holmoe, Bosco and Detmer and their families aren't true blue then, because they all were in the section next to my brother and I at the Mariners/Yankees game. Pure coincidence, we just bought tickets on the street.

I know I am the student and you are the teacher, but may I make a recommendation?

Stop worrying about what other people think of you. There will always be someone who disapproves of something you are doing, so forget it and do what you think is right.

If nothing else, it will reduce the stress on your heart, and goodness knows we don't want you checking out before your time.

Good point. I worry about what others think way too much.

I think the firesides are stupid and a huge w.a.s.t.e. of time.

I am planning to attend the Oklahoma pep rally on Friday night.

Just my opinion. For those that attend the firesides, enjoy!

I know a lot of people plan on attending a High School football game where some BYU commits are playing.

Look, if they want to have the firesides, fine. It probably is good for the locals. I just don't think it needs to be touted as being as important as the football game itself.

Away from the Sunday meetinghouse, the church offers many outlets for a person to relax and have a spiritual experience: temples, visitors centers, firesides, CD's with conference talks and music, scriptures online, BYUtv, Ensigns, books in print and on Gospelink, videos like The Lamb of God, and so on and so on.

Just because something is available to you doesn't mean you need to stop having a life and attend to it. There are many people who will have a stressful week and look forward to a nice Friday evening fireside, and that's their prerogative. But it doesn't make you any less of a person if you look forward to a baseball game at that same moment. Be obedient and do what's right, but don't be a freak about it. God doesn't want a bunch of whacked out, overzealous, self-righteous freaks running around like a Mormon taliban.

On Friday night in Seattle, I went out to dinner with MarkGrace and his wife. I can't think of anything more important than that.

Personally, I have never heard anyone say that the football firesides are important. Thank goodness, because I would politely disagree. By "politely disagree," I mean that I would laugh and then walk away and go do something fun.

It isn't worth it and I am not going to do it, but the same question asked on CB would probably get a little different response.

The part about me feeling guilty was TIC. While I don't have anything against them having the firesides, I will probably attend a Sunday School meeting before I attend one of them.

I don't know what you did to Graceys wife, but you scared her away from other CUFers. I only get to go out with MG. Thanks jerk.

I didn't do anything! We were just talking. How many times do I have to explain this???

I guess you have to keep explaining until it makes sense.
