Yes, there are many BYU fans that are fans just because of the church. But there are probably just as many Utah fans (in the state of Utah at least) that are Utah fans because they hate the church and its school. -
He's more of a casual college football fan. He didn't go to college, so he doesn't have that background. His only major allegiance is to the Jazz. He watches both the U and the Y every year. I'm not sure what goes on in his head when BYU and the U play.
