He's more of a casual college football fan. He didn't go to college, so he doesn't have that background. His only major allegiance is to the Jazz. He watches both the U and the Y every year. I'm not sure what goes on in his head when BYU and the U play. I would like to think that if it came down to it, he would pull for BYU, but I don't know.Originally posted by JohnnyLingo View PostThis makes it sound like he is a bandwagon fan, switching allegiances based on who is good at the time.
Is your dad a bandwagon fan, falafel?Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I agree with this.Originally posted by bag View PostYes, there are many BYU fans that are fans just because of the church. But there are probably just as many Utah fans (in the state of Utah at least) that are Utah fans because they hate the church and its school.
The ones I hate the most are those I only see every other year at the last game of the season. It's fun telling them to STFU during the games."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

I hope so, too, because I hate bandwagon fans like mpfunk hates LeBron and Rick Pitino and the Red Sox combined.Originally posted by falafel View PostHe's more of a casual college football fan. I recognize that it's not really a rational hate, but when I see people put up a BYU flag in 2006 and a Ute flag in 2008, it makes me want to punch them.

While this screams mid-major on a national level, I do think it is very cool on a local level. The U should be proud of what it has achieved in the past 4 or 5 years. Winning both the Fiesta and the SUGAR is pretty cool.Originally posted by Fiyero View PostIntroducing the new and improved RES:

Does anyone consider the 2 above groups "fans" in the first place? All we need is a little attendance smack and this thread will be complete.Originally posted by bag View PostYes, there are many BYU fans that are fans just because of the church. I suppose being a Ute fan because you hate the LDS Church is as good a reason as any for being a Ute fan.Originally posted by bag View PostYes, there are many BYU fans that are fans just because of the church. But I think most Ute fans in Utah end up Ute fans for the same reason anybody else cheers for their home town school: it's their home town school.

My dad wouldn't put up any flag. But I'm pretty sure he wouldn't give a damn what you thought of his bandwagoning.Originally posted by JohnnyLingo View PostI hope so, too, because I hate bandwagon fans like mpfunk hates LeBron and Rick Pitino and the Red Sox combined.

An interesting quote from cougarboard re: BYU fans. One of my faves:
"BYU is not dominate in the MWC on a cyclical basis; the are dominate as a norm. And guess what, BYU fans know it. And they are right. And they are fans and they act like fans." Rational Y, February 20, 2008Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
