  • Relive the glorious 1984 season

with this excellent article by Stewart Mandel. For those of you who don't remember, 1984 was the year the Mighty Cougars of Brigham Young University turned the college football world on it's head by winning the National Championship. A truly momentous and amazing accomplishment, unparalleled in the history of the game. How 'bout them Cougs!

On second thought, I remember and I was only a year older, so I retract that. (Of course for my family it was a highly traumatic sort of affair, what with seeing your mascot flagged in such humiliating fashion and a national title forfeited in the process.)

I do. I was six years old and got a commemorative t-shirt out of the whole deal.

I like how the bowl tried to get better teams for BYU to play and they all ran like scared girls (no offense, Babs), and then decried BYU's low strength of schedule.

Good times in college football. Switzer really showed his true colors.

Simple, it was and always will be about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Not the glory of the game.

Great article! This is the first time this year that I've been excited for football season to start.
