  • Misfires of a Pocket Rocket: BYU v. Toledo

JoePublic failed us and incurred the wrath of the football gods, so I'm back. We're down Ty'Son, which sucks. Scattered thunderstorms are expected on Saturday, which means there's a possibility of rain delays. We're not facing Washington again, so that's a plus. Anyone going to be in Ohio?

lol. Pocket rocket. We should kill them by 30-40 points.

Fun fact about the Toledo. Urban Meyer was born there. What a horrible stain on that otherwise lovely city.

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones . . .

. . . and the team in the Glass Bowl doesn't throw passes, either. Toledo is 93rd in FBS in passing yards per game (208 yds/gm). In last week's contest against Colorado State, they completed six (six!) passes for the entire game.

In contrast, the Rockets' offense averages 269 yards per game on the ground (11th is FBS). BYU's earthbound run defense - currently 116th in FBS - will need to show improvement in tomorrow's game to prevent Toledo RB Bryant Koback from reaching escape velocity.

Fifty years ago, Ohio native Neil Armstrong led the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. Tomorrow, Zach Wilson will lead 11 Cougars in BYU's offensive attack. The BYU offense is 105th in FBS in yards per game and T-104th in points per game, due in large part to mental mistakes/errors in execution/ball security. If the Cougars can take a small step in cleaning up the fundamentals, they should be able to make a Max-Tooley-like giant leap in offensive output. In particular, Wilson will look to exploit the 112th-ranked Toledo passing defense. It could be a breakout game for Wilson, Bushman, et al.

Zero hour - 9AM (Pacific time, at least). I think it's gonna be a long, long time 'til touchdowns are scored against Toledo like they will be tomorrow. Get your ESPN+ squared away now, folks! Let's go, Cougars!!!

I'm looking back at the 2016 game in Provo. There was a lot of talent on the field that night. BYU had Taysom Hill, Jamaal Williams, Fred Warner, Michael Davis, Harvey Langi and Corbin Kaufusi. Toledo had future NFL rushing leader/Pro Bowler/woman-hitter Kareem Hunt as well as Logan Woodside.

Another fun fact: Kareem Hunt attended college at Toledo. If you would've told me there was a guy in Ohio caught on film kicking and shoving a woman, I would've bet the farm you were talking about someone at Ohio St. Is this just an Ohio thing, YOhio?

I'm a subscriber and love it. Next month I will dump Netflix and get the Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu bundle for the same price.

So is ESPN+ like its own service or is it bundled with other services like Hulu TV? Is it bundled with Playstation Vue (+ their sport pack)? I need to get rid of my AT&T TV crap now they dropped the NFL network before the Thursday night games start up.

It's its own service. Not bundled with anything or in any sports pack I'm aware of. It will be bundled with Disney+ when that is available.
