But I'm not a person who bets much, I only look at spreads and general predictions, so I may be wrong.

    thx.
that's what kind of threw me.
    So why is it:
    bypoo -7 vs Utah
    should be
    bypoo +7 vs Utah, right?

i'm going to nevada tomorrow, i gotta get this right before I lay down some money.
    I intend to live forever.
    So far, so good.

Actually, it's the other way around. It sounds weird, but that's how it is. For example:

BYU at +3 means that the sports books is giving BYU +3 extra points. That is, Florida State would have to win by more than 3 points in order to beat the spread. If you bet on BYU in that game and Florida State wins 21-20, you would win the bet because it was a 1 point margin of victory.

The home/away factor is that the home team is always given 3 points for the home field advantage.

Looks like I was wrong and Il Pad is corrrect. Helluva first post for me! From a quick google search:

How to Read the Point Spread

New York Giants -7 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The better team, referred to as the Favorite is expected to win the game and must “give" or “lay" points to the weaker team. The favorite is listed with the minus sign along with the number of points they are favored.

In the above example the New York Giants must not only win the game, but they must win the game by more than 7 points for Eagle bettors to have a winning ATS result. An Eagles bettor will win his bet if: Philly wins the game by any amount of points or Philly loses the game by less than 7 points.

Please keep in mind that Philly has +7 and New York has -7 is the same point spread on the same game but it is simply stated differently.
