  • We seemed to regress (again) after the extension was announced. Some of that is probably on ZW apparently underperforming after coming back from his injury, but I fear that it is a bigger and more concerning problem than that. Once the coaches were comfortable that they’d last at least one more year, the fire that was burning under their asses seemed to go out.

I don't think the extension had anything to do with the last two losses. ZW stunk against a really good SDSU defense. Against Hawaii a lot of bad luck combined with some poor late-game coaching to lose the game.

The early-game coaching, defense especially, wasn't so great, either, giving up all those points.

        • Yeah, defense was complete garbage in the first half. Maybe the defensive staff was celebrating the extension during the game plan meetings.

          • He’s not much, but he’s all we’ve got. The Fire Kalani folks don’t realize that giving him the boot sets the clock back another 4 years, because his replacement won’t be ready for the job either.
Stick with Kalani, let him figure his shit out, and hope he turns a significant corner in the next two years. If he doesn’t, his replacement will have two more seasons to prep for the job.

kalani doesn't suck because he wasn't or isn't ready for the job. he sucks because he's not a leader, he's not HC material. sorry, GM, that's a dumb supposition.

Even if that’s true (and I don’t think it is) who comes in and is markedly better?

He is taking longer than we’d all like to learn some important lessons, but on the balance, Keeping KS is the right move.

And now he and his staff managed to keep our best player on offense and our best player on defense to stick it out another year. That bodes well.

Is that what passes for "coaching them up" these days?

Sorry, didn’t mean to acknowledge anything good that might happen to us or our program. I guess I’m not feeling well today. I’ll resume the sackcloth and ashes routine tomorrow.

Dayan Ghanwoloku is coming back for another year?

                              No, our BEST defensive player.
