Hey I'm with you, I think they should expand, despite diminishing the regular season a little bit.

And by the way, Georgia almost beat Alabama twice in the regular season. Let's say they finally do, and run the table, and finally beat Alabama in the final for their third match-up. That would actually prove my case.

Knock it off. Playing well enough to be one of the top 8 teams in the country would not diminish the regular season at all.

And why wouldn’t three wins in a playoff against the very best teams in the nation when the stakes are highest not be even more significant and impressive than regular season wins? Your logic makes no sense.

Should be the top 8 teams regardless of conference.

It becomes less important to win as many games as you can in the regular season win out, because you can now more easily make it in with a larger playoff format.

This argument never makes sense to me. Maybe for a couple of teams it is slightly less important in that they can lose a game and still make it in. But what about all those teams in the 3-15 range? The regular season becomes even more important for them, does it not? If they aren’t automatically eliminated with a single loss, the remainder of their games still mean something. Seems like it might actually increase the significance of the regular season.

Watch the NFL this weekend with all of the possible playoff scenarios and tell me the regular season doesn’t matter.

It's not a perfect sliding scale, but generally speaking, it's a sliding scale. And you can look at all sports with their different playoffs to find examples. The more teams you open your playoffs to, the less important the regular season is.

More than likely the Top 5 conference will be in the top 8. But going to 8 will not impact regular season.

This idea of going to 8 is bad as Nick Saban said was beyond stupid.

Wouldn't surprise me if one or more P5 conference champion is outside the top 8 on a fairly regular basis.

If the playoff goes to 8 teams, I think all the P5 conference champs should get automatic bids. That way CCGs mean something. Taking the top 8 teams could very well mean that teams that don't even win their division and play in a CCG get a bid while the team that wins that conference does not.

Nah. If a P5 conference champ isn’t good enough to be in the top 8, they don’t deserve to be in the playoff. Enjoy your NY 2 bowl game.

Yep no auto bids — top eight teams play off for 3 weeks would make a lot of sense.

If it ever goes to 16 then sure conference champ can have an auto bid.
