  • Catfight: The Tucson Tussle

I looked, and can't find a thread for the game opener this weekend. If I just completely missed it, then merge, whatever.

I'm taking my family, which is a double bonus because my wife's parents are on a mission there. I don't have much of an opinion on the game yet, but consider this the official thread for it unless someone beat me to it. I predict a victory, and I have a 99.5% probability of being right.

I saw that Arizona is around a 13-point favorite, which given Arizona's struggles is a sign of what the oddsmakers think of the Cougar's performance last year. Not sure if I'd take the points, but I'm hopeful.

Arizona actually opened as 17 point favorite several weeks ago, so it seems bettors so far have thought that was too much.

I saw 11.5 today. I don't know if I would take the 11.5 but I would definitely have taken the 17. I'm not sold that Arizona's defense will be any less porous than last year (ranked #118!). But I also have no idea what to expect from our offense.

Let's go, Cougars! I just want to see a team that plays with discipline and energy and doesn't quit, but a victory would be fantastic. Also, for the record, I'm still bothered by the PAC-10 referee crew's non-call on the pass to Nate Miekle back in 2006.

Agreed on all points. I'm not going down to the game this time, so anyone headed that way, give us a good trip report.

Also upset with that call. Would have made the road trip back from Tucson much better if that game had resulted in a victory.

Maybe the most pressing task for the Arizona Wildcats heading into the 2018 season is constructing a formidable offensive line to protect star quarterback Khalil Tate and company.

Arizona lost three starters from last season’s O-line — which produced the No. 3 rushing attack in the country — while another starter, left tackle Layth Friekh, is suspended for the first two games of the season.

Meanwhile, starting center Nathan Eldridge’s status for the opener is in doubt, since he has dealt with recurring knee issues since the spring. Adding all that together, there is a strong chance Arizona will be breaking in five new offensive linemen in the opener vs. BYU on Saturday. Four, at the very least.

I thought the bad non-call was on a punt return? What am I not remembering?

The bad call was an offensive pass interference that took away a TD.

Of course, I could very easily be mixing up games in my mind.

Miekle got leveled on a PR but the refs said the defender was blocked into him. Matt Allen had a TD called back for offensive PI.

Their center has already been ruled out I believe. They will be starting 4 OL who will be making their first start on Saturday.
