I have to agree. Losing to UMass at home is unimaginably bad.

Why did BYU only manage 40-something rushing yards against a rushing Defense ranked 100?
Why did BYU throw the ball 6 straight times on their two opening drives, going 0-6 and punting twice against a passing defense ranked 28 and a rushing defense ranked 100?
Why did they elect to punt rather than going for it on 4th down inside UMass territory with less than a minute to go before the half? So they punt to the ball to UMass and UMass takes a knee, LOL.
Why could BYUs o-line not pick up any blitzes?

The team has no heart and the coaching staff has no brains.

This loss is stupider than Crowtons loss at home to UNLV. There is simply no excuse for losing at home to UMass.

Yup it’s almost always stupid to punt from your opponent’s 40 but the one thing that could occasionally be nice is the possibility of pinning your opponent inside the 10 and putting the pressure on them. Uhh when they can just take a knee and receive the second half kickoff it’s even more lame than usual.

I won’t Funk or LAUte this anymore as it’s in poor taste. I was absolutely not lying about changing channels, however. I went from 13 to 14 to 68 on my active channels on DTV. I don’t enjoy being called a liar but I can appreciate the timing of my jabs being poor taste.

UMASS watched game film. They stacked the box, varied their blitzes and stunts, disguised their coverages, put pressure on Critchlow, and dared him to beat them through the air. Had UNLV done those things that game probably would have been much more difficult.

A vast majority crowned Critchlow as the savior last week. What they didn't understand was that Ty simplified the gameplan and Critchlow didn't have to do much more than identify a primary receiver and heave the ball. It was much more vanilla than what Ty was asking Mangum to do. Unfortunately we saw what happens when you're QB doesn't have the experience to take on a defense that can throw a lot more at you than what UNLV did. Mangum was improving from week to week and had he not suffered the injury we beat FSU and we beat UMASS.

It's rough to be a BYU fan at the moment.

You still have faith in this coaching staff but I don't understand why. Ty's system ain't working on the college level. Kalani runs a loose program. The defensive players are lost on key downs. Given the coaches history of performance, what can you hang your hat on?

There are certainly coaching staff issues.

No system is going to fix what ails us this year. We lack talent, we are playing 25 walk-ons a game, we have extreme injury issues, and our coaching staff isn't all that well-seasoned.

If I were going to fire a coach (I'm not advocating that we do that btw) it would be Kalani. Right now he runs an undisciplined ship and he needs to get that fixed. This season is a throwaway but it should clearly define to the coaches just what they need to address in the off season.
