Boise has shown they are a paper tiger. They've nearly lost to two not very good teams in two weeks. Even as a top 15 team playing a team that travels well they couldn't manage to fill a stadium just slightly bigger than a Texas HS stadium.
Even if they go undefeated they don't merit consideration for the playoff.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I was hoping Ty had finally started to improve, but his rookie season has been absolutely awful. This offense stinks. Hill isn't even an average college QB and really handicaps an already mediocre group of players, except Williams. Williams is so good that he lifts the whole team a couple of notches. Without him there is nothing. The receivers are embarrassing, so many dropped passes and Kurtz absolute lack of effort are shameful. Cahoon might want to go back to selling medical supplies.

I do find it sadly ironic (don't care for a ruling) that it's Taysom's lack of injury this year that could cost BYU this year not to mention what could have been a special 2-3 year run with a good WC QB."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

I was excited for the new coaching staff, but the bad in game decisions and horrible offense have certainly put a damper on things.
The stubborn decision to play Hill in spite of ample evidence that he isn't even average doesn't speak well of Sitake or Detmer. I thought some of the staff selections were bizarre as well.
They played a tough schedule and been in every game, but this is not a good team. Hopefully they can recruit and Detmer will figure out how to run an offense, but I'm not very optimistic.
Being upbeat and cool is great, but winning is really all that matters and this staff has managed to lose games by making bad choices.

It seems clear to me that we need an infusion of talent on both sides of the ball, and it is amazing that we have come through this ok at 4-4. I was expecting 6-6 or 5-7 for the year and we should do better than that. I'd like to see Mangum get some time in the last four games to get ready for next year.Originally posted by TexTechCoug View PostI was excited for the new coaching staff, but the bad in game decisions and horrible offense have certainly put a damper on things.

Way too early to make definitive statements about the coaching staff but the early gaffes are obvious, yes (I will never speak of that fake punt nor make mention of it again in my lifetime, te lo juro) but I'd say that Detmer has done a decent job overall and is growing into the position. His decision to not run Jamaal enough earlier in the year has been rectified and who's to say that if Jamaal had been given the ball 30 times against AZ that he has the same performance required to sneak out a victory against Toledo? What we do know is that Taysom is 5 games from exhausting his eligibility and doesn't have it and I, along with a growing portion of the fanbase, will be more critical of the coaching staff if he remains the starter. To me it makes no sense anymore. These coaches don't owe him anything.Originally posted by TexTechCoug View PostI was excited for the new coaching staff, but the bad in game decisions and horrible offense have certainly put a damper on things.

I can relate with Taysom. I cracked my neck and broke my back (neither injury discovered until an MRI 20 years later) in a rodeo one summer 4 weeks before returning to school in Provo. I made a considerable amount of spending money in Utah valley during the school year by breaking horses, and resumed activity as normal when I returned. The problem was I was slower and less confident. I just wasn't as good. I thought I was, and everyone else did, but I wasn't. I even got bucked off a few colts, which was pretty rare at that point in my life, but I chalked it up to rank horses rather than tentative riding.
This is Taysom, his injury made him slower and tentative, but he still thinks he can play at his previous level and so do his coaches. In my case, the second time I got bucked off I started losing feeling in my fingers and hung up my spurs for a while. I don't wish another injury on Taysom, but that might be what it takes to get him to step aside.
On a side note, I think having an injury and underestimating it's severity is very common among active people. I imagine a lot of MRI's show old breaks and tears that people never knew they had. My last x-ray showed ossification on the end of my femur from an injury I can't even remember.sigpic

They're not big on purely academic degrees in Boise. I hear they really like to rip on BYU's Family History Degree in BSU's vaunted Woodshop 490 classes.Originally posted by old_gregg View Postdo people actually call byu that?Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

After sleeping on it, I'm good. Boise isn't a bad team (CFP talk is a joke though). Being 4-4 at this point in the season is all I would have hoped for at the start of the season.
We are going to run the table from here going forward. This will ultimately be looked at as a successful season, especially because we will 9 games without a QB that can't throw a forward pass.
I'm still on board the Kalani Bandwagon too. The ethos of this team is changing: we are tougher than we used to be. I really think he is on the right track. I am a bit worried about Taysom playing all the time, because I worry that his legend/charisma is trumping his gameplay. The coaches need to hold him as accountable as everyone else (of course, this is my concern, but it may not be the reality of the situation at all)."Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. Tried every dirty trick to cut me down, but I beat the bastards and left them in the ditch."

Ty was fine. We simply didn't have the horses last night to win this game. The line didn't protect well, the receivers had too many drops, Taysom threw a couple of good balls but was not good in the passing game, and Jamaal was hurt.

That was weird. Intentional grounding is also loss of down and they didn't do that. BSU got an extra down that series.Originally posted by Pelado View PostAbsolutely.
