  • Question about visitors in Cougar Stadium.

Just to let you know I am a 5th generation member of the church. My Great Great Grand dad was Baptist at age 69 in 1899 in Madison County Mississippi. I grew up in Mississippi and other then my time in the Marine Corp I have live there. My wife grew up in the church but her parents were converts. Joining years before she was born. We were married in the Atlanta Temple. Both of her brothers graduated from BYU there in Provo. They went west to find wives . I met my wife in Mississippi so I attended college at Miss State after being discharged from the Marine Corp.

Well anyways my wife's younger brother and I made plans to attend the Miss State game there in Provo. Since making plans my wife's mother got killed in a automobile accident so her father is also coming to the game. He graduated from Southern Miss and is 81 years old. So I decided to make it a family affair and my twelve year old son is coming. He is a big Miss State fan but I hope he goes to college somewhere in Utah so he will have a good chance to marry in the church. To add to it my wife's older brother has three kids going to college at the Idaho campus of BYU all three are married. All six are coming to the game to see their grand dad. ( I have learn from my brother in law that he doesn't like me saying BYU Idaho. So I am guessing that might be the case everywhere.)

I was going to buy our four tickets from the Miss State ticket office. I buy season tickets every year. Since I am buying more tickets and the majority are BYU students or alumni I gave my Brother in law the money to buy them through the BYU ticket office.

He has already bought the tickets and I really don't know where the seats are.

How welcome will my son and me be sitting in the BYU Section with Miss State attire? In Starkville fans of other schools are welcomed and treated great. Well maybe not the Ole Miss, BAMA and LSU fans but everyone else is. Just kidding.

Really looking forward to the trip. I have been to Utah several times but this will be my sons first. We are going to spend Saturday in Salt Lake and Sunday in the Arches.

you'll probably be told to sit the fetch down if you stand and cheer too much, but it should be a good experience for the most part.

Yeah, you should have purchased tickets in the corner with the rest of your kind but it should be a good game. I am going to that one myself. So did you get tickets next to the band or what?

I was at the Miss St/BYU game in Starkville (2001?). That was a fun one as well. I had some really good catfish at some hole-in-the-wall. I don't recall the name.

You will be warmly welcomed as a visiting fan from Mississippi.

I probably would have sit in the Miss State section but I needed to be with family. I don't wear Miss State gear on road games but my son likes to. Now going to Tuscaloosa or Baton Rouge is a far cry different then going most other places. We don't get rowdy and are respectful to where we are.

I have not seen the tickets but it is my understanding that the seats are opposite side from where the Visitor section is. The only thing I know is it's probably in the end zone.

As far as the catfish goes, I don't know which one you are talking about but those hole in the wall places are found everywhere in Mississippi. As far as starkville goes it is a little different since early 2000 and the stadium seats about 10,000 more.

Yeah, for the most part. I would still get the son a BYU shirt to wear to be on the safe side.

Cougar Stadium is not a place I would take young, impressionable kids nor mature, rational adults. Be careful.

He should wear a BYU shirt as a mater of principle, but not for safety.

That leaves room for everybody here, I think.

He's been to Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. I just don't think there is any other stadium like that one.

Ah, next to the students and/or the band... You may want to bring some ear plugs. Our son plays on the drum line and likes to play loud.

BYU fans, for the most part, are very respectful to visiting fans. The exception is when Utah visits because their fans are the worst. In fact, Ute fans are so bad many of their fans hang out here rather than their own boards.

Dawg, do you remember what I was telling you about those Ute fans that like to hang out here?
