Was he a special player, or did he fit in with Rose's system? It is a matter of definition. In my definition, prime time player is somebody who breaks down the defense with the ball in his hands on offense and makes the key rebound or steal because of his innate defensive skills.Originally posted by Commando View Postlol. That's right-- 'Not Ready For Primetime' if I remember the exact words. I think this was as he was on his way to breaking school scoring record, too, and it wasn't exactly a secret at the time that he was a special player.
Tyler was the sort I would like to see as your second or third best player, because his defensive skills were lacking and his ball handling skills were not NBA quality.
Yes he scores a lot, has a nice mid range shot and is reliable at the free throw line. So I still think of him playing a better role as your second or third player. That is my definition of a role player.
I doubt you actually disagree with me on his skill sets, but mostly disagree how I define "role" player. If I recall correctly, there were only one or two games THaws won at the last minute, the Texas game and perhaps one last year."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

No, Jimmer in the pros fits that description, but you could give him the ball in college. He was somebody you wanted with the ball in his hands to take the last shot.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View Post

My freshman year at the BYU the great Sean Covey got knocked out of an away game against Wyoming. In came some freshman kid that looked 12 years old and the Cowboys roughed him up bad. Everyone was bagging on the guy and blaming him for the loss and I even remember a note posted on the community bulletin board in John Hall the next day that read: "Ty Detmer, your mom called and she doesn't want you to come home for Christmas." To be fair, we didn't have internet access back then, so mean people literally had to post on bulletin boards.

Just a piece of advice from a friend. When attempting to assess the speed of a player, you may not want to use a freak athlete who is probably the fastest person on the team as your only comparison point.Originally posted by Topper View PostIf Tanner stays healthy, I can see BYU winning out. Of course, Cincy has a reasonable chance of defeating BYU as does Mizzou, despite having no offense. However, Tanner now has the experience and the ability to lead BYU to victory.
And I'll accept apologies from people if Hoge turns out to be what I suspect he is, a career back up. Naturally, we have an extremely limited sample size, but his release seems slow and he has a rangy type of running style. Of course, I was comparing his running to pre-injury Taysom when I thought he looked slow.
To win out, BYU needs Tanner.
As bonus advice - you really can use this same concept when assessing any skill or athletic ability for any player.

Taysom's size combined with his speed is unusual.Originally posted by Eddie View PostJust a piece of advice from a friend. When attempting to assess the speed of a player, you may not want to use a freak athlete who is probably the fastest person on the team as your only comparison point.

And what's wrong with using some of our best athletes? If BYU is to move forward to advance with and to compete against the better P5 programs, we will need to build upon our great athletes, so that we have great depth at every position.
ND, which also a deeper program, is down its third QB. One can never have too much depth or great athleticism."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Taysom isn't one of BYU's "better athletes". He is an all-time athlete freak of nature for BYU. Why not compare Hoge to other passing QB's?Originally posted by SCcoug View PostBeau Hoge also looks slow compared to Usain Bolt.
